Critique of Isagenix
The following article has been submitted by Dr Harriet Hall.A friend inquired about a product, Isagenix (actually a whole family of products) that is being pushed by the leader of her weight loss group, claiming that "The Isagenix cleanse is unique because it not only removes impurities at the cellular level, it builds the body up with incredible nutrition. Besides detoxing the body, Isagenix teaches people a wonderful lesson that they don't need to eat as much as they are accustom to and eating healthy choices are really important and also a lot of the food we are eating is nutritionally bankrupt."
I went through the website (http://www.isagenix.com/) and watched the promotional videos. There is so much to criticize that I hardly know where to start. It's all misinformation, unsupported claims, testimonials, and money-making ploys.
I couldn't find a critique of Isagenix on the Web, but that's not surprising. No serious medical scientist would take it seriously enough to bother about it. And it's basically all been done before; it's just a slightly new wrinkle on an old scam. You will find some information on related products at:
http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/detox.html
You can also go to the quackwatch.org homepage and type in cleansing or type in detoxification.
The claims on the Isagenix website are a mishmash of pseudoscience, myth, misrepresentation, and outright lies. For example:
Americans are sicker than ever before.
Toxicity accounts for most diseases.
The body protects itself from toxins by coating them with fat, causing obesity. [The truth: some toxins are soluble in fat and can be taken into existing fat cells, but no new fat cells are created.]
The internal organs become clogged and deteriorate if you don't cleanse. Nutrients that cleanse, revitalize, rejuvenate - what does this even mean? The human body needs cleansing like air conditioners that need their filters changed and car engines that need oil changes. [This is nonsense: the human body cannot be compared to a machine: it is a living, self-regulating organism that does its own maintenance.]
They engage in scare-mongering about toxins, but provide no data to show that the tiny amounts we ingest lead to any significant adverse health effects. They also provide no evidence that their treatment actually removes any toxins from the body. Or that doing so would have any significant impact on health. There have been no properly controlled scientific studies of their "cleansing" treatments, only testimonials of the sort that abound on the Internet for hundreds of other ineffective products.
There is absolutely no rationale for the particular combination of ingredients in their products. They have LOTS of different products, and have included just about every nutrient and herbal remedy in existence: 242 of them! Some of these we know to be useless, some are potentially harmful, and we have no idea how the particular ingredients in the mixtures might interact for better or for worse.
They offer "ionic" minerals from "ancient plant deposits." Minerals are the same thing wherever they come from, and all "ionic" means is that it is in a form that can be absorbed - i.e. magnesium as milk of magnesia rather than as a lump of elemental magnesium metal.
They advertise "no caffeine added" for a product that contains green tea; green tea contains caffeine. They repeat the tired old myth that our food isn't as nutritious as in the "good old days." They put digestive enzymes in their products to help you assimilate them, not realizing that orally ingested digestive enzymes are themselves digested in the stomach before they can do anything. They say that their electrolytes "ignite the body's electrical system" - I have no idea what this means, and it certainly is not scientific terminology.
Their antioxidant mixture contains 15,000 IU of vitamin A as beta carotene plus 5000 IU as palmitate. The Medical Letter recently reviewed vitamin A and warned that no one should take high-dose beta carotene supplements, and that women should not take vitamin A supplements at all during pregnancy or after menopause. Among other things, they said: Vitamin A may also have pro-oxidant effects in vivo. A high intake of vitamin A from supplements and food has been associated with an increased risk of hip fracture in postmenopausal women and with teratogenicity when taken during early pregnancy. A placebo-controlled intervention trial in Finnish smokers found that 20 mg/day of a beta carotene supplement increased the incidence of lung cancer by 18%, which was statistically significant. Another large double blind intervention trial in smokers and asbestos exposed workers, terminated early because no benefit was demonstrated, found that combined therapy with 30 mg of beta carotene and 25,000 IU of vitamin A daily was associated with an increase in the incidence of lung cancer, cardiovascular mortality and total mortality.
The Medical Letter concluded: "A balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables may be safer than taking vitamin supplements. No biologically active substance taken for a long term can be assumed to be free of risk."
Isagenix claims to promote weight loss. All treatments for weight loss work the same way: they get people to ingest fewer calories than they expend. There is no reason to think that a person who restricts calorie intake and exercises will lose any more weight if they add Isagenix products. Diuretic and laxative effects, psychological factors, and enthusiasm for a new method may initially fool people into thinking they have benefited.
Their medical advisor, Becky Natrajan, MD, tells us on a video presentation that she is "excited about results" but she does not say what those results are or why she thinks the results are due to the product rather than to diet, exercise and other factors. Perhaps her funniest argument is that the $5 a day Isagenix costs you is less expensive than open heart surgery. As if it were a simple choice between the two!
She tells you to contact the person who told you about Isagenix. And one of the headings on the website is "Wealth." There you will find out how you can sell products from your home and become an associate, a consultant or an executive with increasing levels of financial return. This sounds like a typical multilevel marketing scheme, typical of products that can't be marketed effectively based purely on their merits.
In short, Isagenix is a slick marketing enterprise that lines the promoters' pockets by selling baseless hope. There is a disclaimer on the website that should be taken very seriously: "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease."

I beleive every word that Dr Harreit Hall has said about this product. I know alot of people on it that I care about. Unfortunately and as always we the humans have not learned anything as history repeats itself. Time will tell, and then real health issues will arise with these people on Isagenix, but as always Isagenix will twist that in their favor somehow.
Well I am not a doctor but an athlete and to tell you the truth most doctors know nothing about nutrition. They just prescribe drugs to line their own pockets with $$$$.
Everyone that has been on this product has had amazing results along with myself. I am very aware of my body and if I keep feeling this way then something must be working.
Hey just look around the US and see all the fat disgusting people. It is pathetic.
Network Marketing is the best way to get products out in the market for people to afford. It is the most legitimate business out in the world today.
Hey doctors, yaaaaa you!!! Keep on prescribing drugs, put a band aide approach on your clients and keep them sick forever.
Travel the world a little and see how herbs can treat people, NOT DRUGS!!!
Have a healthy life.

I recently published an article on drug rehab – here is a quote from it, in case you are interested:
Here are some alternatives you should think of:
Free standing inpatient drug rehab program – short term program for less severe addictions;
Inpatient drug rehab program – rehabilitation unit – for severe mental and physical disabilities;
Inpatient drug rehab program – detoxification unit – in general this program takes place on an outpatient basis, but sometimes withdrawal from either drugs or alcohol presupposes extreme measures to prevent relapse. It is important to help patients to change their old habits, and this may happen only through a longer-term disruption from the environment where everything remembers them of the urge to return to the substance of their addiction;
Long term residential drug rehab program – is important for those who would relapse easily (youth, chronic addicts, patients with more than one diagnosis etc.).
If you feel this helps, please drop by my website for additional information, such as drug addiction rehab information or additional resources on free drug rehab .

Thanks for visiting Mike Rad and leaving a comment. I deleted the links that you had in your comment.
Unless there have been conclusive studies that I am not aware of, accupuncture does not appear to be effective in assisting drug rehab.
I would also be very wary of promoting narcanon. This organisation is controlled by the very anti-science, Church of Scientology.
If you can supply conclusive research that shows the effectiveness of these two procedures, then I may reconsider and re-establish the links.

My mother is a Registered Nurse who started using the Isagenix system less than two months ago. In this short period of time her cholesterol and triglycerides have dropped significantly and she has lost over 30 pounds.
it's working for me, too. down 60 lbs since July.
Yeah, I know; take in less than you expend and you'll lose weight...thing about it is I have not--from day one--felt weak or hungry, (or had the "ephedrine effect") even when working out with my sadistic fitness coach--yeah, YOU, Chris. Master's in Physical Therapy, he's the guy who told me to try it. I lost 31 pounds and about 5 inches of my considerable girth in the first 9 days. Again, no sense of hunger, no dizziness. Even while working out with the health nazi.
Different things work for different people. Isagenix products work for me. The cleanse, shake, and gatorade-type drink have made it too easy from me to go from 40 waist to 32's and 280# to 215#. You can keep the rest of the stuff, except for the Ionic Supreme. Some weird, molasses based product that honest-to-god seems to help your body recover from training or hard work outs. helped me, anyway. helps my kid, the pitcher, too. arm doesn't get sore after pitching or bullpens.
Those results encouraged me to make the necessary changes in diet and exercise to keep the weight off. Not a bad thing, in my humble opinion.
The multi-level marketing aspect? Annoying. I gotta believe the stuff would be cheaper if the owners just 'fessed up they were in it for the bucks and sold it for a reasonable price online or through info-mercials after Conan. Your "wholesale" price is about what most other "off the shelf" similar products cost...and you have shipping costs.
My doctor has reviewed the labels and doesn't have a problem with the stuff.
Bottom line for me is I'm going to keep using it as long as I keep having good results.
If this is a scam then it is one of the best scams I have ever seen, or at least all the people that have lost in this scam is a lot of excess fat. Listen Dr. Harriett Hall, as if you are really a doctor. There are very few real doctors in the world that would waste their time posting a blog like this, especially negative comments on something that is working for so many people all over.
You my friend, are a typical Aligator. What I mean by that is, if you do a little research you will find that an aligator has a very small brain (about the size of a pea), but they also have very big mouths. Think before you blog. LOL
I don't really waste time commenting on blogs, but I came across this one and couldn't resist. But, times a wasting so here is my link http://www.fatloss911.isagenix.com Thanks for listening and have a great day.
It is truly a sad world when an actual doctor comes to a conclusion without any research what so ever. I, however, am a reputable doctor in Indiana.I felt the same way this doctor did at first. Most doctors spend about 4 hours learning about nutrition and that's it. Most of a doctor's schooling is on drugs and prescribing them. I had many of my patients approach me with this product and I actually starting laughing at them. Such an overwhelming amount of patients were asking my opinion. I finally came to the point that I realized I really didn't know. All doctors are human Most doctors have egos and we place ourselves on a pedistal. I say this because I have just lost 87 lbs. of unhealthy fat after using the product for 7 months. One of my patients asked me to give my opinion on a news report posted on 9daychallenge.com That convinced me to experience it for myself. I now look at my peers and can honestly say they are being dishonest with themselves. Cleansing is now my first choice for my patients. I can only hope they start demanding more hours in Med school on this area. For anyone reading this, try it with yourself and judge. I currently have over three hundreds patients experiencing dramatic results with this product. I am not a distibutor but I am a customer that Highly recommends this program. Dr. Arthur Braunwell
Those who have valid arguments present them. Those who don't, resort to insult.
I'm sure Isagenix is "working" for many people, just as bloodletting "worked" for many people throughout the centuries. If you accept all the success stories for Isagenix, logically you ought to accept the many more success stories for bloodletting.
When they finally got around to testing bloodletting scientifically, doctors found that it didn't work, and they stopped using it. If Isagenix were properly tested against a placebo and were found to be no better than a placebo, would you stop using it? If not, you are operating on a pre-scientific level and I can't argue with you or even discuss the issue intelligently. All my comments were predicated on a scientific approach to testing claims and establishing whether they are backed by acceptable evidence.
Humans are very susceptible to the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy.
Throughout history they have attributed health improvements to bogus treatments that just happened to coincide with other factors that were what really caused the improvements. The only way not to be fooled is to use science. I've been fooled too many times to accept something like the Isagenix claims without hard evidence - of controlled studies, not of testimonials from satisfied customers.
If Isagenix really works, all they have to do is present real evidence, and I and the entire medical establishment will start using it in conventional medicine.
And by the way, there is only one "t" in my name and I have a valid medical license in Washington State and was board-certified in family practice.

So do you think Isagenix is a scam? I know quite a few people on the product and they have lost a tremendous amount of weight along with inches. The fat is burning away. Also, they have made extra money on the side because people have asked about their weight loss.
This is a multi marketing company and this is what they promote.

To my athletic friend, MS: Hi, from a fellow athlete.
Herbs are also a form of drug. After all Aspirin comes from the bark of the willow tree, some chemo drugs come from the Pacific Yew and some digitalis come from purple foxglove, to name a few.
I have travelled parts of the world. Those areas where modern medicine is poor and they rely on herbs and traditional medicine have a much lower life expectancy. Thanks, but I'll take the tested and proven over the untested and unknown any day. Better still, eat a well balanced diet and exercise and many of the health problems can be avoided.
People who want to lose weight do not have to take anything. All that is required is for them to eat less and exercise more.
A healthy balanced diet combined with exercise helped me drop from 110kg to 80kg over 2.5 years. That weight loss is now permanent. Pills, potions and questionable, yet high priced gimmicks are not required. The money spent on Isagenix would be much better spent on a cheap pair of running shoes.
To 'Doctor' Hariet with one 't'
"bogus treatments that just happened to coincide with other factors that were what really caused the improvements"
Over the last 10 weeks, my brother, his wife, my Mother, my sister, my Mother in Law, my wife and myself have all used Isagenix products.
ALL of us have lost a significant amount of weight and feel great.
NONE of us have done any extra exercising (even though we should have). I guess this is just a really, really big coincidence and that we have all had "other factors that were what really caused the improvements".
We don't need a study to tell us what we already know.
As a side note:
I am curious to know if you saw or heard anything about the CTV news piece this month on the amount of Toxins found in the blood of 4 top Canadian politicians (one of them being the health minister).
Do you think there is a chance that they 'may' have something to do with the rising occurrences of various forms of Cancer and other diseases?
If not, what in your opinion could be the cause?
Why do you refer to Multilevel Marketing as a scam? It's a valid form of conducting business and one of the last bastions of free enterprise. I would rather take advise from someone who has made a career of working with high quality products, than from doctors, lawyers, and other professionals. I know, because I used to be one. I have since given up my career to stay home with my kids and now represent several direct sales companies and I'm proud to teach others the benefits of MLM.
In response to Kevin Paine's post on Dec. 4th 2006 calling for evidence that acupuncture works for drug rehab, I have found some interesting links.
Here is one for the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a division of the National Institutes of Health, the primary government funder for medical research in the United States:
http://nccam.nih.gov/health/acupuncture/
Here is a text from the NIH Consensus Development Statement in 1997 (please read beginning of link to understand what this is and how they come to their conclusions).
http://consensus.nih.gov/1997/1997Acupuncture107html.htm
"Acupuncture as a therapeutic intervention is widely practiced in the United States. While there have been many studies of its potential usefulness, many of these studies provide equivocal results because of design, sample size, and other factors. The issue is further complicated by inherent difficulties in the use of appropriate controls, such as placebos and sham acupuncture groups. However, promising results have emerged, for example, showing efficacy of acupuncture in adult postoperative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting and in postoperative dental pain. There are other situations such as addiction, stroke rehabilitation, headache, menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, osteoarthritis, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and asthma, in which acupuncture may be useful as an adjunct treatment or an acceptable alternative or be included in a comprehensive management program. Further research is likely to uncover additional areas where acupuncture interventions will be useful."
The bibliography demonstrates that there is quite a bit of data on acupunture (2302 citations between 1970-1997, many of them clinical trials) to base these conclusions on.
My nutritional sciences text also says that the FDA supports the use of acupunture for the uses listed above (nausea and vomiting following surgery or chemotherapy, nausea that accompanies pregnancy, pain experienced after certain dental procedures, and recovery from a drug addiction) -Perspectives in Nutrition, McGraw-Hill, by Wardlaw and Hampl, 7th edition, 2007-
Of course, they recommend acupuncture as an adjunct treatment not as a primary one.
Analyze the data as you wish, but please do not say that there isn't any.
Anyways...back to Isagenix...
Dr. Hall
There have been many valid scientific research to back the claims of Isagenix. I, myself, was introduced to it by my OBGYN. I had some serious medical issues. Not only have I lost 30 lbs. in 45 days, my fibroid tumor has decreased in size, I no longer need to have my uterus removed (I have never taken any medications for the fibroids). I have medical problems that requires my blood to be closely monitored. Since I have been on Isagenix my tests have amazed the doctors. Before Isagenix I didn't eat unhealthy fast foods, I bought Certified Organic and I ate mostly vegetables, lentils and fruits. I took my vitamins and prescriptions as directed and still no improvements. Since Isagenix my doctor has taken me off of these prescriptions, my blood glucose stabilized, I no longer hemorrage, my iron is not as low. I have tried the placebo route and the medicinal route, now my doctor is promoting Isagenix and he keeps in contact with my OBGYN (who first introduced me to the product)
The scientific research that has gone into this product is amazing. You can find many valid claims, don't just go into the website and try to tear it down. Call Isagenix talk with their researchers, doctor's, health professionals, formulators and founders of Isagenix. Ask for a list of the doctor's that are promoting the products, talk to the press, better yet there was a segment on the claims of Isagenix and toxins that National Geographic did, they do excellent research. When they began they were set out to bring down the claims of Isagenix.
Each health care professional that I have come accross and has accepted the challenge to research the product and even try it have all become firm promoters in their PRACTICE of Isagenix.
Isagenix is being promoted by several MD,s in several state's.
Instead of putting it down why don't you try it. Then you can talk out of experience. Are you saying that 152 of the doctors that I personally know are all qwacks? If so you are entitled to your opinion.
I am a Healthcare Professional, 15 years of service and continuing.

In addition to my earlier comment. The FDA requires all alternative and some pharmeceuticals to put the disclaimer.
When you prescribe medications there are disclaimers that are given in other forms. Look in the PDA there are many disclaimers there as well.

I don't know about MLM stuff, what I do know is this stuff has worked wonders for me and several friends. Yes it's low calorie, but that's the point. I have more energy and have eliminated over 41 inches and 40 pounds. My Doctor indicated I'm now healthier than ever, he even ran some blood work to make sure all counts were good. This stuff DOES WORK! ~ malfox
If all I needed to do was "eat right" and exercise, I would be really thin by now....ehh?
I need structer. I need it in a package with a regiment. Affordable, premeasured, with minimal side effects.
5 days....-9 lbs (morning weigh-in). No exercise has been done since I wanted to eliminate any factors that i could that would taint it.
I have followed the directions exactly and read the advice on the site. I think this is the real factor.
As for the business side: I have 6 people in my downline and I only worked to sponsor one myself. I have made $35.
It will work for the person I sponsored and I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I introduced them to it.
How is this a bad thing?
I have a couple of questions.
1. What's the REAL difference between an MLM and a Sales Rep working for a Corporation?
2. Why does a Sales Rep "networking" for a corporation ok but somehow considered manipulative for others?
I agree; motive is always everything; but one could question my motive that I'm only interested in you because I want you to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and I do!
Shaklee, Vibe, Melaluca and a whole host of these folks products are not FDA approved; but I've taken FDA approved products for my body and they simply don't work. I've run 18-25 miles a week; had excel spreadsheets more complicated then accountant software; and while I lost weight; it never fully changed my eating habits. I've done Atkins and Weight Watchers twice. I drank Slimfast and wanted to eat real fast afterwards.
Obviously, eating less, more exercise, etc. will generate weight loss; but I know plenty of people who run 3-4 miles 4-5 times a week; eat 800-1200 calories a day, work their tails off; and still have fat all over the place and I was one of them until....Isagenix.
I'm not saying that other companies don't have similar products; heck I've tried them; but for the first time in my LIFE; I am currently doing my first cleanse day; I've had 16 ozs of Cleanse for Life; six snacks and at least 64 ozs of water and guess what? I haven't been hungry and if you knew me; you'd say that's a God given miracle. Black man like me who grew up around sweet potatoes; fried chicken, greens, etc? I respect that your a doctor and tradition has it's place; but sister; this is working not just for me; but my wife also. Oh and by the way; my mother in law who gave Jenny Craig HUNDRED's of dollars just signed up. She's tired of eating meals that only make her even more hungry simply because of the SODIUM they put in them. Oh and by the way; many know that the ground lacks the nutrients it used to have but don't want to tell the public because well; the long standing corporations would suddenly have to validate what is exactly in their product.
I will be posting a follow-up for anyone interested after I do the isagenix program.
I have been introduced to this product by a close friend and business partner, who is also a full time fire fighter. He learned of it by watching the results gained by his coworkers using the program.
All of the firefighters in this department are Paramedics of the highest order, and they deal with doctors and hospitals on a daily basis, in a very affluent area (where money gets you the best treatment available). I've listened to a lot of stories. To tell you the truth, I would rather have one of the firefighters doing brain surgery on me, than let the average physician tell me what is going on in my body.
All of those pesky malpractice lawsuits are kind of scary too.
Anybody ever been to a luncheon put on by a sales rep for a drug company? Put a camera in one of those expense account breakers, then tell me what is wrong with multi level marketing. All diet programs that are of some merit only become popular because of word of mouth. People like to talk about dieting. Only in multi level marketing, the company actually pays your for all that otherwise free advertising.
For the next posting: I am a slim guy with a decent build, can't afford to lose any pounds. I am going to do the cleansing program with my girlfriend, who would love to lose 30 pounds. The two of us are really looking for the other benefits that are promised: energy, stamina, and an overall feeling of better health.
I'll be back to share my experience.
P.S. Hey Doc - See, anyone can make comments without ever doing any research, but a person of your training should be more interested in what may be best for your clients, instead of feeding your ego by writing an article or whatever that post is supposed to be. Next time, take your own advice and include some footnotes on the information you are sharing.
Also, using bloodletting as a comparison is probably not a good idea in future intelligent conversation.
Thanks, Timmmy
Regarding the wonderful Isagenix cleansing system . . .I returned to one of my doctors, stood a bit closer than he would have liked, and said, "I forgive you . . . because you didn't know there was something I could take - and in 36 days get off my prescription pain medication!" (that I had been on for two years plus for osteoarthritis).
If it were up to know-it-all MDs like Harriet Hall, I'd still be in chronic pain and forking over money for Darvocets and Ibuprophen.
I understand her skepticism, and I also understand her arrogance.
Isagenix is bad! I bought it twice and the next thng I know they shipped and charged over $400 to my credit card. I called and they were rude. They expected me to pay over $40 in shipping to return a product I didn't order. I had to call my credit card company to dispute the charges and change my credit card number. Now they are invoicing me a $25 dispute charge. Unbelievable.
Western medicine has been trying to squash Eastern Medicine practices for a long time now but it has stayed because it WORKS!!! When are people going to realize that you need to listen to your own body. Did this doctor "try" the product? Don't people know that it is NOWHERE in a doctor's best interest to promote any alternative product that is not funded by the pharmaceutical monster companies who often give them commission for prescribing and distributing their own products. Wake up people!
Generation Xers know the truth. Watch "America Freedom to Fascism" by Aaron Russo. More exposure of the conspiracy of the Federal Reserves (a private group of elite bankers by the way, who own most of everything from media, to the pharmaceutical industry and the oil industry and who control our governments because our leaders allow it.)Did you know that J.D. Rockefeller monies is behind the whole pushing of the pharmaceutical industry (own everything having to do with oil). All of it. Many of the prescriptions out there today are a "made from an organic manipulation of petroleum!!!"
TRY IT, THEN GIVE YOUR OBJECTIVE OPINION.
That's wonderful Harriet, by the way, can I get a quick refill of my prescription over the internet? All kidding aside. There are many things that work for different people, Isagenix is just one. Many doctors still refuse to recognize chiropractic care or accupuncture as being legitimate treatments for some conditions, but if everything has to be backed up by studies that we've seen in the past can be tailored to give favorable results so it benefits a company or institution (see Vioxx or the Tobacco industry) are we supposed to take your word at face value just because you're an M.D.? I'm sorry, but I long stopped running to my M.D. for prescriptions that he said were best for my ailment just because he's the doctor. Take responsibility for your OWN health people. Be informed, read literature from both sides of the arguements everywhere, check out alternative medicines and treatments, and make a decision based on YOUR knowledge. Yes, your Doctor is well trained and may be very good in diagnosis, but some are just too busy to offer or suggest alternatives and it's easier for them to write you a quick prescription and if you rely on them to just write a prescription and all will be well you'll just be another sheep constantly going back for more meds because they've got you believing that's the ONLY way.

As a massage therapist - one who is in constant contact with the alternative medicine community - I appreciate blogs like SCAM, sites like quackwatch and skepdik etc. I don't deny for a minute that alt medicine has its share of thieves and worse.
About Isagenix - my chiropractor, a level-headed person in whose judgement I have complete faith, was raving about it and so I finally took the bait. I was extremely skeptical, not only because of the cost but because of the scammy looking presentation. I myself do not have a weight problem, but many of my massage clients do, and I also have quite a few who suffer from chemotherapy after effects. I thought that it might be something I would recommend that these people show to their doctors if it turned out to make me feel even half as good as my chiropractor said it would.
Turns out the stuff is absolutely dynamite. By about 1/2 way through the 9-day cleanse, I was feeling as invincible as I did when I was 25. (I am 54.) As I said, I didn't feel I had any weight problem (was about 20% body fat - I am female), but I did actually drop down to a little less than 19%, and got rid of those little dimples that used to smirk up at me from my tummy when I scrunched it.
What can I say - the stuff really does feed you. It is incredibly convenient to do just that shake for breakfast. (My prior habit had been a big breakfast meal with fruit/veg/boiled egg/vit pills the whole bit, one much smaller meal mid-afternoon, and then no supper.) One breakfast shake truly does last me until my mid-afternoon meal. What's more, even at those times of day when I used to be the most ravenous, I am now indifferent to things like the presence of ice cream in the freezer, a bar of black chocolate in the cupboard. In the past, I had trained myself to keep my mitts off that stuff on all but my heavy workout days, but it's not like I didn't lust after it every waking minute.
Dr. Hall says there is no research supporting Isagenix claims. Actually there is a guy who goes around the country giving little seminars about the theory behind the way Isagenix works - environmental toxicity, depletion of nutrients in the food supply, malabsorption, our incessant food cravings, and how Isagenix cleansing solves these problems - the very theory that Dr. Hall says is so bogus. At the speed of an auction barker, the man reels off study after study to support what he says. We remember his entrance - his staggering up to the head of the table with an armload books to document all this. And he is in fact writing a book of his own. Supposedly he does this traveling preacher circuit of his own volition (ie., not Isagenix's), but he obviously has some kind of a relationship with Isagenix, which he certainly didn't spell out for us. When he publishes his book (next fall I think he said) then perhaps his case will be available for better scrutiny.
Until then, we are stuck with Isagenix' website - a tacky fad-diet-looking affair, which does the whole Isagenix operation a real disservice, if Isagenix is in fact as good as it has made me (and so many others, apparently) feel. This is my main complaint about the product. The website should be a lot more informative - giving the why and wherefore of each ingredient, and documentation of the studies that have led them to believe that we are all so toxic - basically putting in writing and footnotes everything that guy says in the seminars. (Of course, my mentor in the pyramid was helpful, and gave me a list of ingredients when I was still in the undecided phase.)
Instead, Isagenix' official verbiage is more marketing than science. I tried to ask them about the Vit A / beta carotene supplementation, for example. For the same reasons Dr. Hall quoted this particular thing (it only happens to an extreme degree in their "antioxidant pills" as far as I can see) gave me the willies. Isagenix' response was not only vague; it was even curt in tone. All they would tell me was that that study about the harmful effects of Vit A supplementation etc. was not definitive.
To be fair, as part of the cleansing program, Isagenix does provide online audio presentations by a motley crew of supporters - some celebrity types, but also some leading MD's. Once again, in a style that is much too full of self-serving blather for my taste. As I say, I would much rather see this (the informative content only, please) on the site in writing, accessible to the entire public, not just those who have forked over $200 for the 9-day cleanse.
Because I have been impressed with the product's effect on me, I am not ready to condemn these guys just yet. People I know who have shown it to their doctors have found that the doctors approve of the ingredients. The main gag-factor seems to be the $. It seems that at worst the product would be proven to be ineffective, but not harmful. And at best ... they could really be onto something.
Amen to the person who suggested eating less but well and exercising more. Sometimes simplicity should be at the core of understanding.
I represent the skeptical viewpoint on Isagenix as a whole. My wife has been 85 percent sold (by a doctor, no less) on this in two days time and asked my advice. I was glad she asked because this will cost about $250.
Truth be told, the shock of hearing the price brought back every experience I've had with friends who'd tried Amway, or Primerica, or the new one (pay 250 dollars for this 15 dollars worth of crap) Isagenix.
I don't need to know the science when common sense directs me like an eyeglass to spot a bulls@*ter from a mile away.
Ask yourself if you need it? Did you need it as an active teenager?
Will you or the salesperson benefit more? Have you tried other plans and it was your motivation that ceased, not your supply of over-priced jars full of powdered crap? Think about it for a while. Your fat won't go anywhere while you do.
Mike
I think the people that say this is crap needs to take a closer look at the ingredients! I myself has tried it, though very skeptical, I did it and will always be glad I did. I no longer need sleeping pills, and have lost my caffeine (coffee) addiction. That to me is only GOOD! Not Crap!
Ah! Finally! Some sanity. Dr. Hall, thank you for your comments.
I have been struggling with the zealots about Isagenix on my board with limited success.
Sadly, it is almost impossible to convert a fanatic. I almost feel like Isagenix affiliates and distributors are sort of like a cult.
If one dares to oppose them, instant ad hominem attacks and ignoring a fact.
Sorry but you must be wrong.I have had Fibromayalgia for about 7 years and have been to numerous Doctors only to be sent home with more drugs,that did nothing but give me more problems.Thank god I bumped into a friend of mine that is a Isagenix consultant (YES A NETWORK MARKETER) and guess what?? I did the program and am CURED!!
I am amazed at how well these products work...
sincerly, Carolyn Palenville NY
[sarcasm]Yes, we all know Isagenix cures all.
I started my 9-day Isagenix program, on April 6th.
Lo, be hold! On April 15th, the IRS let everyone who used online tax filling to have an extra day!
Isagenix came through! I also got a refund check which I did not expect!
Isagenix is the best![/sarcasm]
Dr. Hall, and SCAM,
I am an Isagenix user, and I LOVE YOUR ARTICLE.
Some folks at our church are involved in selling Isagenix, and they have managed to drop some serious weight and inches. That being said, having a background in Kinesiology, Physiology, and Exercise Science, I inquired about the program, and (GASP) even purchased a 9 day and 30 day program.
Before you think I am going to attack your article, think again. I happen to think you're dead on right about Isagenix. It's a pyramid/MLM scheme. It promises 'magic in a bottle/pill/powder', and the ability to produce untold of wealth and prosperity...just like AMWAY. :)
Anyway...I dropped the coin, and purchased the product. I took all my measurements, and weighed myself, and embarked on the 2 day 'cleanse'. At the end of the week, I had lost about 13 total inches, but didn't drop that much actual weight. I am a big guy...think Offensive Lineman...6'4" 330 lbs.
About 3 weeks into it, I am feeling lean, mean, and my clothes are noticeably baggier...I am also down to 318 lbs.
OK...now for where I rip Isagenix.
It is nothing more than a restricted calorie diet. PERIOD. There is no magic in a bottle, pill, or powder. During the cleanse, you ingest about 200 total calories during the day and drink lots of water. During the shake days, you ingest about 1000-1200 calories per day, and ingest lots of water. If the USDA caloric intake is 2000 calories, and you ingest 800-1000 fewer calories per day, you're going to lose weight...PERIOD. You could do this WITHOUT Isagenix's magic formula.
Look...I don't have a thyroid problem. I don't have a genetic problem...I eat a LOT, and don't exercise enough. The DOWNSIDE to Isagenix will be when folks drop a bunch of weight REALLY fast, will go back to eating 2000+ calories per day, they will EXPLODE with how fast they regain their weight. To combat this, I have increased my caloric intake of food from 1000 calories per day to about 1400-1800 per day. Sure, I won't lose the weight quickly...but once I do...it won't rebound back.
So, the good on Isagenix.
It provides results that motivate.
It provides a regimented eating program.
It's products are of high quality.
The Ugly on Isagenix.
It's expensive
It tastes like crap.
The system is ripe to set people up for a 'rebound' weight gain.
In the end...weight loss is simple. Burn more calories than you take in, and the weight/fat will come off in EVERY CASE. You don't need ISAGENIX to do it.
Otto the Terrible
Whoever started this blog is an idiot. Don't you have anything better to do? Your life must be pathetic!! Best wishes. Autumn
It is great to read a debate about Isagenix. People on the product and in this organization do get cult like as they describe the amazing changes in their life.
I lost 45 pounds through nutritional cleansing and have kept it off with the help of Isagenix.
I've now watched it work for over 100 people. I'm very skeptical about the science behind these products and am excited about the research underway.
Isagenix does not appear to be afraid of scientific research or inquiry and their medical advisory board has indicated that there are studies soon to be published.
Dr. John Gray, the author of "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" is the one responsible for my nutritional cleansing.
I wanted to experience more balanced brain chemistry and see if it might help my clients with their emotional issues.
Releasing pounds and inches turned out to be a pleasant side effect.
I didn't follow the reduced calorie part of the plan. I ate extra meals... but my food choices changed. I started to crave foods that made me feel better and avoid foods that made me ill.
As for the whole network marketing thing. When it is done with integrity and the intent is to serve people rather than get rich quick it is amazing.
There are folks in Isagenix who spend hours coaching people through major life changes. Then there are those who are out to enroll as many people on the product as possible.
People who get on this product often feel so great that they just can't stop talking about it.
Even my skeptical mother who lost no weight at all the first month on the product but dropped 30 pounds after three months has turned into an Isagenix zealot.
I've been looking for stories of people who got sick using this product or who after 90 days on it saw no results at all.
So far, I haven't found any. I know that no product can be safe and perfect for every body and I'm eager to learn about the downsides of nutritional cleansing.
Perhaps this forum will inspire someone with negative experiences from these products to speak up.
I'm not happy with the toxic fear tactics used in some of the Isagenix promotional materials.
I'm not sure I trust any for profit company to be 100% honest about the risks of their products and I'm eager to learn more.
What negative side effects should I be watching for? Who should never do a cleanse? (other than pregnant and nursing moms and children under 12)
One of the 100 people I've coached through a cleanse developed problems after going off of his cleanse. He had severe gas, heart burn and acid reflux. The symptoms go away when he goes back on the products.
Can cleansing weaken the bodies ability to digest fast foods, processed foods, and the standard unhealthy stuff most Americans eat?
Isagenix suggest that you'll want to take their products for the rest of your life. I feel so good on them that I can't imagine going off of them.
Yet, the companies own sales statistics show that most people do stop using the products at some point.
If you've stopped, please share why. Was there a point in time that it stopped working, made you feel ill, or did you grow tired of the taste?
One last note before I go. There's been some talk on here about how expensive the product is.
I have to say right off that I have cut my grocery bill in half since going on Isagenix. I really am saving money.
I started my nutritional cleansing with a mix of products from a Health Food Store and switched to Isagenix and it is costing me less.
I bought the $36 dollar membership to get the products at wholesale. If I had bought the products retail I would not have noticed much savings.
Keep sharing your stories, good and bad. It helps everyone make a more informed choices about their health.
In the past 6 months I've lost 30 pounds and have gone from a 38" waist to a 32" waist. I'm 6'3" and went from 235 pounds to 205 pounds today. I have lots more energy than I did before I started this program, and people are always telling me how great I look now. I'm also continuing to lose about 2 pounds a week. I've got a new wardrobe and feel much better about myself.
Oh wait, I didn't do this with isogenix or any other quick magic-pill solution. I exercise at least an hour a day, cut down on soda and sweets (not completely eliminated them), and I eat sensibly. I don't consider myself on a diet--I eat what I want, but primarily chose from healthy choices like vegetables, fruits, and lean meats and I eat in moderation. I generally snack throughout the day rather than eating 3 big meals, but I make sure I have breakfast in the morning. I do have the occasional candy bar, chips, ice cream and other treats, but in limited amounts. I also haven't spent any extra money on expensive pills or supplements.
To all the people who are so fanatical about how they've lost double-digit pounds in single-digit days without exercising--first I say that's wonderful. I know you must feel great about yourself. But I would ask you to come back here in 9 months and let us know how you are doing.
I don't think that it's any coincidence that there is always a "new" diet-loss pill or program every year. In another few months, people will stop using Isagenix and the weight will come back on, and then they'll jump on the next one that comes along. Another question for people using Isagenix--how many other suppliments, pills, cleansings, or diet programs have you used in the past? Do you still use them? Did the weight stay off?
Mitch,
Great points. As a Hypnotherapist who has worked with people trying to lose weight for years I agree with most everything you said.
I see people going on fad diets, and reaching for magic pills all the time.
What keeps the weight off is a real deep (subconscious) decision to shift the size and shape of the body.
Isagenix can help with that, in that it balances brain chemistry and when that happens people's habits and behaviors change in an easier fashion.
I have just passed the 9 month mark with no weight gain and no desire to give up Isagenix. I have not found it to be any more expensive than what I was spending before on food.
Yes, people who lose lots of weight and start feeling really great can get fanatical.
98% of diet plans, supplements and pills on the market do not work or work only for a short period of time.
I've been honored to meet now hundreds of people who have released extra weight and kept it off for over 4 years on Isagenix.
I myself have coached over 100 people through their cleanse and watched nearly every one of them (one person associated the taste with a medication from her childhood and had to return the product) drop significant weight.
This product isn't for everyone. Some people do better with just hypnotherapy (a slower but equally effective process).
If a person never deals with the issues behind the extra weight, the weight may come back as soon as the conscious effort to let go of the weight comes to an end.
Isagenix with the brain chemistry component just seems to have better results in shifting behavior and generating long term results.
Dr. John Gray has done some very interesting research into brain chemistry and nutrition. His "Mars Venus, Diet and Exercise Solution" is worth reading.
He offers alternatives to Isagenix that are some what hard to follow but equally effective for some people. (who can find all the ingredients and calculate the calories correctly).
Keep up the critique people and please do share your negative experiences with the products. I hear so few that I find those the most interesting!
Hello everybody,
I think that it's wonderful that people are able to strike up a conversation about Isagenix and whether it works or not.
I just heard about it like two days ago or so, and both my sister (who just had a baby on May 5th) and her boyfriend are both doing it along with one of their friends and are boasting about weight loss.
Granted, I work in a hospital, and I'm unsure if them saying how they've lost five pounds of fat in three days is healthy, but we all need to take into account a few things:
- Most M.D.'s will agree that losing weight that quickly is dangerous.
(I agree it can be, given the circumstances) But look at all of the middle-aged Doctors and such who were healthy as can be and drop dead?
- I haven't read anything yet about long term problems. Will this affect us badly in the long run?
What about all the junk food most Americans have been eating since birth? Any way to stop it is better than not.
I'm the kind of person that will believe something when I can see it with my own eyes. Now, my sister and her boyfriend were pretty skinny to begin with. But the 9 day program is NOT that expensive.
Best way to know is try it. I'm planning on trying it soon. If it works it works, if it doesn't. Atleast I learned something new.
I may be young (19 years old) and I'm bustin' my butt having class from 7am - 11:45am driving home to work on homework and working at the Hospital till 11pm. I don't get home until 11:30pm. I don't have time to sit down and plan my meals out and go grocery shopping and my family will say how it's far easier to just buy stuff I can take on the road. However, if I can find something to help control my weight (I work out, I do a lot of weight lifting.. I'm about 165 - 175lbs and still able to squat more than double my body weight) and have possible concentration lifts and more energy. That sounds reasonable to try.
Anyways, I see no point in putting down one doctors opinion of the company. But with the salary most M.D.'s are making, especially Washington...You can afford $1xx.00 to try something for 1 week and do you're own tests.
Kevin
I started using Isagenix Products while already at my ideal weight. I have been running marathons for 25 years. It has given me the extra nutrition I need. I no longer feel whiped out after a long training run. Now I am starting to run races over 50 miles. I never considered running longer than a marathon before using Isagenix products.
Hi all,
To the person who asked for any negative experiences with Isagenix, I'm at the point of speaking out.
After years of following the science and nutritional hype of various companies (first vegetarianism, the "Master Cleanser" lemon juice cleanse, Sunrider, Young Living Essential Oils, and finally Isagenix) I have come to the following personal realization though experience: the only time I felt truly healthy and lost a significant amount of body fat (over a 2 year period) was when I ate whole, nutritious foods and water, and exercised moderately and consistantly (I went from 155 lbs at 5'4 to 110 lbs...with increased muscle mass and low body fat - and past health issues went out the window).
As for Isagenix: I started on it due to the listed ingredients (and hype)about 4 years ago as I had gotten married, and with new work pressures and a kitchen supplied with my husband's style of eating, I had left my healthy (and grain lowered) lifestyle and had gained back fat (I was at 145 pounds). I did the 9-day cleanse and felt terrific, although the cleanse drink made me feel slightly nauseous. I lost 9 pounds. I found out several weeks later that I was pregnant (during the cleanse). During my 3 months of pregnancy, staying off the cleanse, but still taking some products, I rapidly gained weight. I also lost the baby. I opted not to associate too much (maybe it was coincidental), so I continued with Isagenix and joined a gym. I loved the effect of Ionix on my workouts. I lost 30 pounds in 12 weeks due to vigorous daily exercise and combining the 'body for life'info. I felt good, but I also felt the weight loss transitory, and easily gained back after "cleanse days" when any sodium was ingested (ie. water weight). Then, I noticed my hair loss and morning nausea about 2 hours after a shake breakfast. With the twinges of upper right abdominal pain I suspected gall stones. I did a 24-hour gall stone cleanse (with olive oil/grapefruit juice) and was alarmed at the size of the stones and cholesterol masses that I passed. A follow-up ultrasound of the area showed a complete clearing of stones. The hair loss and weight yo-yo-ing did not quit. Then I read of the danger of the preservative sodium benzoate in the presence of vitamin C (ascorbic acid), which frees benzene, a very cancer-causing agent. I contacted the company over this ingredient and the very real potential for harm. They responded with their "use of a more natural form" of sodium benzoate....and have not removed it from their drinks. After researching sodium benzoate to benzene issue, there is no way I put this in my body anymore.
I still use the shakes as a quick morning meal, although I don't feel much of a benefit. I have read the organic whey info, though, and like it, although I am not a fan of the fructose they put in it. I have gained back any losses from the cleanses and am now finding myself at 165 pounds, a shocking number considering how active I am during most of the day.
After all this? Not sure if this aging body can handle the temptation, but I want the body and health I had, once upon a post-pregancy time (yes, I delivered a healthy baby girl 14 years ago). For me it's back to abundant beans, vegetables, kefir, fruit, and some nuts, fish and eggs...and moderate, consistant exercise.
Best of luck everyone on your quest for health.
I did the 9 day cleanse, and btw did not even do it correctly as I did not do enough research and didnt "fast" but rather ate normally. And I still can say the results were dramatic. I absolutely cannot be a day without the shakes-my brain chemistry has not felt so stable in over a decade and without it I am a mess. I also experienced the shrinking of a hemorroid that I have had since the birth of my son 3 years ago-thats real cellular cleansing,lol. Not to be "gross", but for the past 3 years the only relief I could get was pushing it back up my rectum a few times a day. A few days on the cleanse, i noticed it wouldnt go up the rectum anymore. I actually was alarmed...until I realized it was shrinking! It is now GONE. And the reason Isagenix cannot put all the amazing medical claims on their site is because of FDA laws prohibiting medical claims of any sort for supplemental/herbal prodocts like this. Big Fines! And you can find the ingrediants if you navigate the site correctly. I did. And in doing so, did my own independant google search on each and every ingrediant listed for ionix Supreme and the shake. Needless to say-quite impressed and I urge you to do the same. As far as the person concerned about that other ingrediant, sodium benzoate, first of all, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your baby years back. And that should serve as a strong reminder to anyone trying to get pregnant or who may be to follow the warning of the company to not use if so. I will be conducting my own independant research further into the Sod Ben. myself. I wasnt thrilled about the fructose, but do understand that its the low glycemic-the same one my mother's MD put her on as a sugar substitute when she was diagnosed with hypoglycemia 36 years ago. But I personally do wish they would use stevia. I would also like to add that my husband, who has not done the cleanse, does do a shake veery day and feels so muchj better overall. Our son began preschool last week and brought home the usual runny nose, which we both started to get sick from. I rested, added airborne, and kept on the shakes plus ionix Supreme. After resting one day, I got better and continue to do so. My husband ended up getting very, very ill. (born with asthma, his immunity just isnt very strong). One day,I forgot to take the Ionic Supreme and started feeling sickly again. As soon as I did an ounce, I felt an IMMEDIATE relief! That's when I became a TRUE believer of that product! And looking over bloodwork I had done a month before I began Isagenix, I can see that I was on hte low side of normal on many, many minerals and vitamins. Of course, my doctor assured me tha teverything was normal and not to worry. I decided to ask for a copy of my tests and spent hours doing my own research on the numbers. I t makes so much sense to me that I feel so much better on the Isagenix because I am now getting 100% of good quality of calcium, zinc, all B Vitamins, magnesium, and a SCORE of other nutients we don't have time to discuss here. (2000% daily of Zinc!)And please understand that I am a person who eats pretty healthy! I am very conscious about what I put in my system, so I have to believe that the claims regarding the erosions of the top soils in America eradicating most of our minerals and vitamins have some truth to them. Not to be a fear monger, but its not enough for me in my life to "get by" anymore. Its not enough for me to be on the low side of "normal" on lab tests but to still not feel great ever! I want more for my life. I want to feel great! I want to thrive! And for the first time in a very long time, I feel like i do! The next step is getting the courage to get off my ADD meds and see if the isagenix keeps that away. with most of America deplete in magnesium, its no wonder we are all on Adderal and Ritalin! Please with me luck because I will do that next and follow it with a 30 day cleanse to eradicate that poison from my system! Anyway, thanks for the fabulous Blog- I always enjoy hearing all sides of it, even Dr. Harriet Halls. Thats what is so wonderful about free speech, we can listen or not, and agree or not. As an aside, I do agree with the gentleman advising you to not compare Isagenix to bloodletting.
I feel sad for the people who have never tried the products and somehow have a bad opinion of it. Do your research people. You'll be amazed at the garbage we put into our bodies. Of course doctors don't want you getting better cause then they are out of a job. And they are out the kick backs they get from the drug manufacturers. Gain control of your own health people.
I have some magic beans for sale!
Not only will they make you lose weight,by eating three of these a day (followed by a "magic milkshake") but they will also make you rich! All you have to do is annoy everyone you know into trying them as well, for a small fee of course.
Folks, how about trying to eat healthy (excluding the "snake oil" and other fads) and getting some excercise? Simple and it works.
I just attended an Isagenix introductory meeting in a friend's home. A "heavy hitter" in the company was available for questions via speakerphone. I asked him what quality controls were in place and where the ingredients came from and where the products are manufactured. I got a long winded non-answer. As far as I'm concerned, if Isangenix cannot tell me where and under what conditions it's ingredients are grown and blended, then they must not want me to know. Our pets and kids have recently been contaminated with unhealthy products from China. It's a fair question to ask, and Isagenix should have a creditable answer. Till then I'm keeping my hands in my pockets, and continuing to read labels, exercise, and eat healthy.
As a member of the human race I have discovered for every good thing out there you will find an oposing opinion. The world is full of experts in everything but qualified in none. Anything coming from America is always driven by the dollar. Yes people make money from selling Isagenix, it's a business. If you done want it. Don't buy it. If it doesn't work and you did follow the instructions ask for your money back. They say it will be returned.
How much money have you spent on drugs the doctors are pushing. Do you ask where it is made and quality of material? Unlikely! Do you ask to see the doctors financial papers to see if he has made money from medicine?
A Dr Harriet Hall wrote a very funny one sided arguement against it (Isagenix) but omitted to inform the world how much money she has made conning patients into taking drugs she should know are harmful to you. Our local hospital kills quite a few people through over medication, wrong medication etc. I have yet to have any actual evidence of anyone dieing from getting healthy.
As for America being a sick country, do you realise most of the world are shooting at americans and that includes america? Multilevel marketing can be seen as a terrorist act or a chance to help solve health and financial constraints in the world.
I love that last statement. Very well said. In response to those inquiring about quality control tests and the conditions in which the ingredients were blended ... if you want these answers that desperately, I can assure you that speaking to an independent associate is not the way to find them. John Anderson is the formulator of these products. If you want these sort of answer talk to him. From my direct experience with Isagenix, I equate the company with Apple Computers of the tech world. High end, no compromise products at the forefront of technology.
This is very simple - do the products work or not? I can tell you from personal experience that the answer to this question is absolutely yes. Secondly, is the Isagenix business model empowering people to fire their bosses, own their own legitimate business, receive tax breaks, and develop as a humanitarian and a leader? Again, absolutely. So let's now pose this to the nay-sayers. Are you someone who is open or closed? Do you want to be healthy or sick? Would rather take control of your health or rely on drugs to provide a band aid solution upon a glimpse of the tiniest glitch in your system? Do you want to continue to trade time and energy for money for the rest of your life or build an international organization that will provide you with a residual income forever? The choice is yours - are you open or closed?
My parents started using this product about a year ago and rave about it. The problem is my husband and I have watched both their health decline dramatically in that time. They used to have our kids over all the time, but now they never have the energy.
My diabetic mother's blood sugar levels are obviously yo-yoing almost constantly, evidenced by frequent and severe mood swing, exaustion, frequent urination, etc.
It terrifies me to watch this poison slowly killing them, but they refuse to listen when we tell them what we're seeing. They just keep listening to the casual friend who got them into this crap and spouting the company line about how wonderful it is.
I hope this post keeps someone from killing themselves with this stuff and am praying that we can finally get my parents to see the truth before it kills them, otherwise my children may never have any real memories of the grandparents they adore--all thanks to good old Isagenix.
I think this is a great product! I've sold it to lots of people on the internet and made money off of it. That's why the idiots and easily-conned people are out there--so that the rest of us can take advantage of them. All you need to make money is a magic pill or formula and a little bit of false advertising that caters to low self-esteem, and bam! you've got a money maker. People would rather rave about this crap than admit that they were fooled into wasting their money.
Also, if you are interested, I've got some work-at-home programs for you where you can make millions and not do anything at all. I've also got some pills that will make your penis bigger and ways for you to eliminate all your debt without paying for it. And also ask me about how you can get out of paying taxes forever--I'll fix that up for you too..for a small fee.
Isagenix is a cleanse, not just a diet! I was too skeptical at first, but after trying these products, I have not felt this good in 20 years! (I am 40) I am an active, vibrant, BUSY woman with and extra 10 to lose, like anyone else. But it wouldn't matter to me if I lost weight or not at this point. Focus, mental clarity, physical energy.....I'll take it! And Isagenix has given me this and more! (And I am losing the weight that I desired)
Usually people who are so negative and have taken so much time to "slam" something or someone, has either way too much time on their hands and or other motives! I am not a MD, just a healthy, happy, active believer!!! Hey Dock, you should try it!

Our healthcare is ruining this country. Did any of you see Sicko? If you did how could you possibly take one physicians "opinion" about something she didn't even try over the many testimonials. Doctors don't want you to ever be completely well. They want to keep you on some kind of medication to indefinitely line their pockets and the pockets of the pharmaceutical industry. The natural approach is always the better choice in prevention. By the way all the "not intended to treat, diagnose, prevent, or cure" disclaimers that the FDA requires companies to put on natural supplements in my opinion are to make you feel uneasy about trying the natural approach - like it won't work if given the chance. In reality they should have to put the same disclaimers on all of their money makers. How many lives have to be lost or destroyed using synthetic drugs that end up being recalled after the fact? And if meds cured their respective diseases why is it once you're put on a certain drug it's usually for the rest of your life in ever increasing doses? Its because the drugs don't cure the disease they only alleviate symptoms leaving you dependent on your drugs and your doctors for your well being.
I was skeptical when I started using Isagenix products. I did not believe cleansing was for real. However, I have lost 43 pounds and 42 inches, and my cholesterol has dropped 60 points. I know longer use stimulants, like caffeine, to give me energy. There is no other program I have done that has improved my health so much. Anyone who has not tried the products for 90 days should not condemn them.
OK, so I can see that these 200-calorie (hello- that's FASTING) products/regamine work- in the short term, at least. But I don't think we should ignore the source or the heinous upcharging that this "valid business model" produces. (It's no cooincidence that ALL multi-level marketing products are wildly overpriced- we need to pay hundreds of middlemen without cutting into the noble founder's profits, right?) If Isagenix is all about helping people to be "healthy and wealthy", then why haven't they done ANY proper studies? If it's SO consistant and easy the cost and time involved would be negligible. This wonder company has been around for years- WHERE ARE THE STUDIES? Oh, that's right, the placebo effect works better with no explanation. And in terms of the "Get Rich Quick" element, look at the company's own earning report for 2006- average income for all members, $116.87- FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. I found this site while doing research on this product. I haven't tried it yet. I am an ardent believer that most things produced by pharmaceuticals will only get you in trouble. All one needs to do is read the daily paper or watch tv and view a few class action lawsuit advertisements to realize that the pharmaceuticals are poisoning us. About two years ago, I decided to stop nearly all medications that I take. The only ones I take now are birth control and medication for hypothyroidism. I no longer take otc pain relievers. I have switched to homeopathic remedies for pain relief and they have been working for me. In the past two years, I have gotten ONE cold. I used to get multiple colds throughout the year, flu, viruses, etc. Since I've reduced the usage of these medications, I'm convinced that they have an effect on our immune system.
To that end, the concept of cleanses and using a product based in herbs and nutritional supplements is very appealing to me.
Having hypothyroidism leaves me with the problem of nearly impossible weight loss. I eat fairly healthy. I'm not one to frequent fast food establishments or eat a lot of processed foods. I focus on organic products and those with very few ingredients. Unfortunately, it's NOT always as simple as eating healthy and exercising more. My weight has steadily climbed over the past 20 years. I was only diagnosed hypothyroid several years ago, but I'm pretty sure this was a problem much earlier on. Most MDs, when they test you for this, think that all is well if you fall within a "range". However, if you have no energy and other symptoms, doctors should be more aware and either advise you to do things differently or refer you to a specialist. I finally got frustrated and saw an endocrinologist on my own who confirmed the thyroid condition.
The reason I decided to post was that I have seen a number of doctors posting negative articles and blogs about natural remedies. Some of us have wisened up to what is going on. Unfortunately, the rest of the country has not caught up yet.
Here's the dirt... Pharmaceuticals want natural cures out of the mix. They cannot be patented and, therefore, it is impossible to prevent competition and they can't make as much money from natural products. Instead, pharmaceuticals want ONLY drugs to remain as treatments to diseases. Even when these don't work. In fact, specifically, because they don't work. If you get cured, they can't sell their medications anymore. Why do you think there is a new disease advertised on your tv every day with a dozen new medications along with them.
The truth is that MANY people die each year from taking DIAGNOSED dosages of medications. Yet, it is unusual these days for the FDA to formally pull a drug from market. The pharmas usually "voluntarily" pull a medication if things get really out of hand (read: Vioxx, Phen Phen).
If you have a choice between taking a synthetic medication or taking a natural remedy, choose the natural remedy.
I'd also like to mention the questionable reference to the quackwatch.org site. The two "doctors" that run this site are known to have affiliations with the pharmaceuticals and the FDA. This might be some interesting reading for you:
healthfreedomlaw.com
As I mentioned earlier, I'm just here looking for information for this product right now and haven't decided whether or not to try it just yet, but what they say about the nutritional value of our food is absolutely true. In fact, the FDA (yes, those great friends of ours) just recently put a new advisement out there that we will soon be required to irradiate ALL raw vegetables and fruits. Do you all know what irradiation does to food? It not only kills "bad" things like e. coli, but it kills nutrients from your foods as well. The FDA is not your friend.
Isagenix is a scam. Only the ignorant think otherwise. Stop wasting your money.
Isagenix is a scam. Only the ignorant think otherwise. Stop wasting your money.
i can't believe the ignorance some of these bloggers. Doctors charge for their time. They make the same money if they prescribe twenty drugs or no drugs.
Everyone wants to make money. That's what makes the world go around these days. Pharaceutical companies and network marketers alike. Doesn't matter what you're buying, someone is making money somewhere. The whole argument against network marketing is weak. An earlier post mentioned a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company does the same. They receive a regular bonus based on their performance & sales. There is no difference between that and a product user who believes in something trying to share (and sell) it to others who they feel could benefit from a product.
I started using Isagenix about 6 weeks ago particularly to loose a small amount of weight quickly as I was going on vacation and wanted to feel comfortable in a bikini again. I had no intention of having anything to do with the business side of Isagenix. I lost the weight but also noticed a significant difference in my energy and mood. I started my husband on it at the same time. Before taking Isagenix, we were very close to separating. We argued, yelled and fought constantly. Things had really gotten quite bad. Since taking this product we both feel a renewed sense of calm in our relationship. We have not argued the way we used to in weeks. If we do get irritated with each other, we discuss it with calmness and it's usually over and forgotten within 10 minutes. We have more passion towards each other. I feel like our love is blooming again.
The book by John Gray "The Diet and Exercise Solution...." explains what I believe has been happening to our relationship. Our brain chemistry seems to be balanced and we are getting along better than we have since we got married two years ago.
Some earlier posts also mentioned a placebo. I don't believe Isagenix is a placebo, but even if it is or if some believe it to be...what is so wrong with it. I compare it to religion. There is no proof in religion. It's based on faith, but it is this faith that creates a lot of peace for people and if believing in something makes you feel better about yourself, your life and your world, then there is nothing wrong with that.
Dr Hall if you think the FDA is doing a good job you must love some of the poison they approve, such as Aspartame. I rarely see fit M.D.'s to begin with. I use Isagenix and I feel great. I started with the 9 day cleanse and I lost 7 pounds and 13 inches. I now use the Total Health and Wellness and I have kept the inches off in the places I want them off and I have gained 5 pounds of muscle. I love to swim but I am in my fifties and I was finding it hard to get the energy to swim everyday. With Isagenix in my body my energy is through the roof and I am swimming 2 miles a day...I feel great! My kids love Isagenix too and they love the fact that their dad is going surfing and skateboarding with them again. Isagenix works and the people that I have come in contact through Isagenix are some of the most positive and happy people I have met.
Isadupped
I work for a company where everyone was selling everyone Isagenix. I knew not to do the MLM thing, but felt pressure against my better judgement to sign up because the owner of my company did it. I also needed to lose weight. I was on a healthy eating and exercise plan prior to that time.
I did 2 9 day cleanses once a month. I had "released" 17 pouinds and toxins from my body. Then, nothing. It would not budge. My cravings became out of control. I was eating the recommended amounts, and then began to gain weight. Nothing I did seemed to work. I asked for help from all the people above me on what they did, and they could not answer me, except to eat more snacks. Nothing helped. I no longer recommend the product. Not to mention the fact that 2 months after my last shipment Isagenix dug up a crdit card numbber I had used a year earlier and decided to charge me for another annual membership. That was the final straw for me.
At their annual meetings, they get people up on stage that are very sweet, and they start to cry and share there personal medical testimonies all the time, I no longer have to take my blood sugar medication, or my medication for my blood pressure, ect. One particualr pair in my upline just shared with e about a woman that was diagnosed with 2 months to live with cancer and now she is doing great because she is on Isagenix. I was shocked that they could make that claim. They never announce a claim in a meeting like that, tell you to ask if a regulator is present, and tell you to tell people your medical testimonies in a one on one situation.
Dr.Hall From health counselor K.H.
I was married to a Yale Medical School graduate for 25 years. I "enjoyed" numerous meals and vacations sponsored by drug companies. My husband readily admitted that he derived his information about a drug from the representative. The FDA is overworked, underfunded and dependent upon the data provided by the drug companies regarding deaths and illnesses caused by their own products. To name a few: Vioxx, Seldane, Celebrex, Bextra, Strattera, Iressa. Don't try to convince us, Dr. Hall, that you necessarily have "the answer." I choose to observe how my own body feels and reacts to what I ingest. Consider looking into Dr. Andrew Weil's program for doctors. You might learn to look at food and medicine in a different way.
I researched the Isagenix products and was impressed; after using them I am absolutely amazed. I feel better than I have felt in years. My GYN. and my Internest (who is Integrative and not arrogant) have taken notice. There are some physicians out there who are willing to look outside the "box." Everyone I know who has used the cleanse system has been pleased. I don't care in the slightest that Isagenix is network marketing. As far as the expense....the Isagenix shakes are used in place of other meals....and I am worth it!!

I appreciate Dr. Harriet Hall's blog. He certainly has some valid points, and he's entitled to his opinion as everyone else who has commented on his blog.
There's no need for vitriolic comments personally directed toward Dr. Hall. It's in poor taste. He's taken the time to provide his professional opinion as a doctor regarding a PRODUCT. How does that justify a personal attack against him?
If the product is effective, simply state as such. There's no need to publicly humiliate him, and the mud-slinging is entirely inappropriate.
I am a medical and research professional and I totally agree with Dr. Hall. Isagenix is a total money making scam. My wife tried it and after 7 days, she passed out and EMS had to transport her to the ER where she was found to have hyponatremia. Her blood sodium level was critically low from the diet. She had to have an IV placed to replace her sodium.
I don't consider this diet safe since there have been no clinical trials done to prove that it is safe.
I am anti-isagenix or any other miracle diet "program". How about move a little, eat whole grains, fruits, vegetables and drink water. This is something that has been proven over and over again to work and it's something you can manage for the long-term. I would LOVE to fast forward 5 years from now and see how many of you Isagenix UBER-FANS are still on this expensive, high-maintenance program AND kept the weight off. I predict it's not a lifestyle for anyone for long. You're on practically a liquid diet. Live life, enjoy food, move more and don't eat too much. Simple.
Tara, RD
K.H.
If you were married to a Yale graduate, he should have taught you how to spell Internist (not internest)
Your comments are absurd.
Both of my parents were morbidly obese and their doctor put them on Isagenix. After seeing them lose a combined 80 lbs in 2 months, I was convinced to try it myself.
I couldn't believe it when my out of control Irritable Bowel Syndrome disappeared and I had the healthiest BM in about 6 years! I checked in with my mom about her experience. She said she her "bathroom life" was incredibly improved as well.
So, you can call it a cult, or a scheme, or say it's just a placebo effect, but you know what?
You can't brainwash POO!!
Isagenix is the real deal.
To bad when you look up Dr. Hall in Washington no such person is licensed to practice medicine. Sad day when you have to lie to get people to pay attention to anything you say...
I'm starting the first 30 day program tomorrow and had a very hard time finding information that wasn't trying to sell something--I find it interesting how many of the positive commentors on this blog were directing us to their website :-) I'm very glad to have had Dr. Hall's post and to have had so many comments to follow up. I think I've gotten a good mix of feedback--my conclusion is that it's worked for some people. I especially like the person that said how horrible thier website was--I so agree! While waiting for my product to arrive I've looked all over for more information, specifics in regard to ingredients, what the regimen is etc and found nothing. I find it sad that so many people resorted to name calling, if they really thing the Dr. is wrong, why can't they just say it and leave it at that?
Anyway, thanks for the post, thanks for the variety of comments. It was the best 'research' I've been able to do so far.
I like what Otto said. This program will promote weight loss due to the severe calorie restriction. Anyone who fasts one day a week and replaces two meals with a 230 calorie shake is going to lose a lot of weight pretty fast. The problem that I have is the cost. If weight loss about about doing with less, then why does it cost so much money? Many people in this world are literally starving to death because they can't afford to buy food! I'm sorry, but before I spend hundreds of dollars to eat less, I would rather try and simply discipline myself to eat less. Then maybe I would have some extra money to give to people in impoverished countries so they can eat.
What is wrong with fasting one day per week using juice? Surely there are less expensive meal replacements out there. And anyone can take psyllium powder (the cleansing ingredient in those shakes.) I happen to be an RN and we never give patient's psyllium powder with their medications because the psyllium would cause the medications to be unabsorbed in the blood stream. Something to think about.
To be honest if Dr.Hall was writing a blog on eating at McDonals or Popeye's I would think "wow she's really concerned about health.. Going out of her way to trash Isagenix this way is pathetic. I personally know 4 Physicians who recommend this to their patients because of easy of use and steller result ... in both lab work and weight loss.
Read the nutritional value of the products such as the cookies and bars and shakes. Aren't kids and adults better of eating product like this than the junk that most people eat. PEOPLE ARE OBESE!!! CHILDREN ARE OBESE!!! and dying from it. The cost is not a big deal... no more expensive than any other health product at a health food store. Grow up..
All these smug answers "eat less and work out more" really doesn't cut it in our society today.
Care about the health of others... start a blog about the dangers of fast food. What a scam that is... costs people thousands of dollars a year and causes a staggering amount of health issues.
PS "Dr.Hall" your little family practice designation really doesnt buy alot of cred...
As my first visit to my own site in quite some time, it's good to see the article published on behalf of Dr. Hall has attracted so much comment.
Rather than go back over the last 70+ comments, I'll just duck in and comment on the most recent.
Just as the anonymous poster may know of 4 physicians who recommend Isagenix, I know of 4 who agree with Dr. Hall. Just because it's believed by a large number of people, doesn't mean it's true. While there may be some success from using Isagenix, that success would be more likely due to the very low calorie intake the product contains. Just as any low calorie diet would work.
Dr. Hall presented a critique of the claims made by the Isagenix website, pointing out the many errors, misinformation and pseudo-scientific claims.
I agree with the comment from the Medical Letter that "A balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables may be safer than taking vitamin supplements."
I would also contend that the "eat less & work out more" strategy does cut it in today's society. If you can't find the time to spend 10 or 15 minutes doing a little more exercise, then maybe you need to spend a little less time typing comments into blogs.
The Less / More strategy worked well for me. Thanks to Dr. Hall and other of her ilk, I avoided the scammers and have successfully lost the weight I wanted to. From 110kg (242 lbs) to 80kg (176 lbs) in a couple of years. The target, just one kg per month. Technically, that still leaves me as overweight on the BMI scale.
I'm now spending much less time on the internet and more time being active. It's not that hard, it just takes discipline and the determination to stick with the plan. If I can manage this with a full time job, operating a small business on the side, looking after 4 children and housework on my own, then other people can as well.
I would be tempted to write a similar article about McDonald and Popeye if they were making the same bogus health claims as Isagenix. As far as I know McDonalds don;t claim that their food can purge you of toxins.
Well, I'd love to stay and type more, but I have to go for a run. After a few of Half-marathons, & a half ironman triathlon, I'm in training for my first full marathon on August 3rd.
As living proof that eating less and exercising more doesn't always work, I've started the Isagenix program. I've lost 5 pounds and total 9.25 inches in the first week alone.
I referee over 200 games per year of youth soccer (spring and fall weekly games, and weekend tournaments), I couldn't possibly get anymore physically active than I have been for the last two years, and I haven't lost so much as 1 pound or inch off my body.
Since starting Isagenix, I am now noticing that my neck and arms look thinner, my knees and legs look thinner, my pants are looser etc.
I'm not tired, and I'm not starving, and I'm finally losing weight, so what ever is in the shakes, snacks and cleanse for life must be working.
The only thing I don't care for in the Isagenix diet is the Ionic Supreme, which I found interesting that someone else loved. LOL. To each his own.
I read through quite a few of the comments and saw quite the various opinions on Isagenix.
The "doctor" who pretty much took aim at the products without doing any research of her own first showed that she really has no idea what she is talking about.
As a woman who was told 2 years ago by a "doctor" that I "HAD TO HAVE A HYSTERECTOMY" and refused, I am a stubborn critic of doctors with quick opinions. I researched my ovarian cysts and possible remedies online and found an answer in some great products. I went back 6 months later - to the hospital directly - and guess what, no cysts - no need for the hysterectomy.
I was also skeptical about Isagneix - then researched it - decided to try the foods - heck - they are "foods" - not drugs. I got results that were measured by doctors - the doc was impressed.
My father took labs - then Isagenix - then more labs - his docs (in another state) were impressed.
I recommend that sweet misinformed doctor do the same. Take HER labs - eat the food for 3 months as laid out - then take her labs again. Let the proof be in her own report!
Thanks
You guys are lame if you don't like something stop bitching about it. its neither a bad nor "good" thing. if you think its going to help it will. if its not for you stay out of it and find different solutions. if it makes sense and works stick to it.
I had a patient who called and asked me about this product. I told him I didn't know anything about it, but asked him how he was doing. He said he'd been on it for a month and hadn't seen any benefit, and the day after he had some type of "cleansing" process, he felt awful. I said, "well if it's not doing you any good and makes you feel awful, why don't you stop it?" That is his new plan. Of course he's not trying to get me into his marketing chain. There's always somebody out there with a new "miracle" product that will cure all your ills and make you rich at the same time. Sorry folks, this is just pure quakery and the only people who make money are those at the top of the chain. I know you want so badly to believe you can overcome a lifetime of "All beef whoppers" with a few months of Dr Spanky's elixer. But that just isn't reality.

I just had to write. This is just another doctor that stands to loose their income by the masses becoming healthy. All you need to do is look around you to see that the food we eat has a poor effect on our health. 80% obese. It sickens me. And our children will ultimately pay the price.
I have been on Isagenix for a few months now and NEVER felt better. Same old story! Great weight loss, body fat % decreasing/muscle mass increasing...I will never stop eating this product. I get up everyday fully rested and ready to go!
Dr. Harreit Hall should try this product. She would be doing her patients a true service.
I have found that the people who this hasn't helped, have not really been eating within the program, the way it was designed. We all need fewer calories (much fewer) and better nutrician.
THIS IS THE FUTURE OF NUTRICIAN.
And as far as a "money making scheme" all business is based on the same principals as the Isagenix business model. What is wrong with people making money on something they believe in and helping others at the same time.
Is there hype? Absolutely. You can't help it when all your life you've struggled with your health and weight and finally something you do, ACTUALLY delivers!
This product was developed out of the health needs of Jon Anderson, its founder and formulator. Who is well respected in the health and wellness arena. "The Mineral Man".
What ever Dr. Harriet Hall is selling, I'm not interested. Just more "Western" medical practices that will all keep us on drugs and meds. I pass!
The only thing that matter are properly-done clinical studies.
Not anecdotal tales - 'it worked for me! It worked for my mom!' They can easily be falsified by anyone on the Internet. Heck, I could say my aunt died from Isagenix, and who's to say I didn't just make it up!
Nobody's refuted Dr. Hall's comments on the amount of Vitamin A being potentially toxic, for example.
Remember: Just because you took a product and your health improved at the same time, it doesn't mean the product was responsible.
What is wrong with Network Marketing? I am young, 31 years old so I may now have been around long enough to know the difference, but I have nothing but positive experiences with any kind of network marketing I have done. I think it is a fantastic way to promote products and for someone to make extra cash. After all, aren't all corporations basically a pyramid? The worker bees at the bottom make the least money and their work benefits their managers, and up the line it goes to the top executives who make the most money.
Thanks for the place to get and give opinions about isagenix. I was approached by someone who raved about the effect from the isagenix products. I was skeptical and even leary when I realized it was distruibuted by network marketing. But because the recommendation came from a trusted source I tried it. I had to change my eating habits and lose weight anyway.
Why not try an "easier" way. I have been on it for 8 days. I have lost 13 lbs. I feel pretty good but not the boost of energy that everyone talks about. I feel about as good as when i eat right and exercise. It is a very interesting diet or lifetyle. What I have discovered it is uses the same fundamental as the atkins diet. It gets your body into ketotic state so your body is burning fat and does not have the sugars to use. The reps say you may have an odor or difference smelling breath that is from the cleansing. Actually it is from the ketosis. So in my opinion the isogenix line is a low calorie low fat form of the adkins diet. It really does seem to work especially if you stay away from the carbohyates and sugars when eating you "sensible meal". I can't see staying on it for along time though, just like any diet. The key is to eat health ( small portions) and exercise. oh what to visit my isogenix site? ;)
I can't believe people actually get emotional about a product such as this, I have someone at my work who swears by isagenix and has been taking it for quite a while now. Yes she has lost alot of weight but who couldn't drink a shake instead of a meal for lunch and not lose weight is
the world really that dumb about weight loss, and she is also very tired and is not with us at times, I remember her before isagenix and was not like this. So for what I have seen and my work colleagues it looks like, take isagenix and you will be tired ,look unhealthy, and the best part be brainwashed all for four hundred dollars a month!!!!
For those of you that are anti isagenix...you need to try it. I used to think my friend that raved about the shake and how great it made her feel was full of crap. I have tried every diet under the sun, the only other one that I found to be effective was medifast.
What people fail to recognize is that you can do it on your own by eating less and exercising more, but when you eat less on your own it's almost impossible to get all the nutrients you need. True the shake is only 230 calories but it makes you feel so alert and energized. Today was my first day doing the cleanse and I can't believe that I am not irritable and cranky like I would be if I just did a fast.
For all of you skeptics...skip the website and just try it and see how it makes you feel, you won't be sorry.
BTW I don't sell the product, but plan to continue using this shake for as long as I can get it.
Here's to a healthy life...cheers.

My son is now able to interact appropriately with peers, take care of himself and want to be hugged and kissed. We started the program 2 years ago. Within a short time he went from being in his room all day to wanting to be around other people. He's 17 now. 4 in our home have lost weight and keeping it off. My doctor is thrilled with all of our lab work as it keeps getting better and better. We've all ended or dramatically reduced "Dr. Written Suggestions". Weight loss and lab work aside - just having my son show affection is the best! thank you Lord for leading John Anderson to formulate Isagenix! Annamarie in Durango
I will admit..when i first heard of ISAGENIX from my mom i thought it would be just another wanna-be weight loss program that she would give up in a month anyway...this is almost 6 months ago. My mother who was over weight has lost tons of weight since she has been on it. she has more energy and has begun to regain her self confidence. She then turned a friend on to it...
MB(as ill call her) was over weight, tired all the time, and constantly getting sick. since she has been on the product(she started in June) she has lost a significate amound of weight, has more energy and has not gotten sick.
With both of these claims i have begun the program too. the food and meals are amazing! the chocate wafers are fantastic and really do work at curbing your appitate.
The best part about this program is you dont have to do it just so you can loose weight. This program can be used to boost energy in a mother, help athlets, or as a
weight lost program.
Another point. The doctor who wrote this obviously did not do a fair amount of reasearch because there are several doctors who back this produt. Several medical personal who believe in this...theses people range from doctors to nurses to chiropractors. Maybe before you-septics that is-run your mouths about a product you have no experience with, you should do more investigation into this product...maybe attend a meeting for the product???
So Dr.Hall...did you know that the ground that we are using for farming is so depleated that we no longer get any nutrience from it. An experiment was done in 1950. They tested spinach that was grown from a certain farm. With that spinach you could eat one bowl and get the necessary nutrience from it. Another test was done a few years back. This test showed you wuold have to eat over 10 bowls-the same size as previously- to get even close to the nutrience. these are the reasons why ISAGENIX works. it is not a miracle curer...and no one is saying it is. but what we do say is that it has worked for millions and obviously you did some very bias research.
Christine
Kmiller
I think you people who believe so passionately in your product and insist Dr Hall would change her mind if she just used it should pony up the cash and pay for 1 year supply. There would be no risk, she would use it and not have to pay your incredible fee. This stuff is $400. You don't just casually try something for $400. So put your money where your mouth is and GIVE it to her!!!
i know this is from an old comment way back-- "entire medical establishment will start using it in conventional medicine." This will never happen since western medicine and pharmaceuticals is a huge engine for our economy. Seriously, I grew up with docs in the family/friends and it's all about the drug. Let's mask it with this drug or take this to counter the effects of this drug, etc..it's ridiculous. I see so many old people popping pills but heck there's no picket lines in blogs saying hey that pharmaceutical company is a scam. That BP pill is a scam..I say don't knock it until you've seen the results. I'm a personal trainer and have been helping obese/overweight/out of shape people for over 10 years.
I'm all about hard work and sweat, but it's been a challenge to work with people's bodies the last several years. I can put a dent in it but it's tough to get these people to drop the weight....until isagenix came along...isa products plus exercise..holy crap..this stuff is amazing. And, I don't get people to join this so called get rich scam...I see results, people are dropping weight, they get off the BP pills, the type II diabetics are in control...this stuff is organic/wholefood based, etc...it's good stuff.. oh and the majority of doctors that i've met and know and hung out with...are out of shape. You should see this group of plastic surgeons have lunch or should i say the gobble the cafeteria food in 5 minute during their break time nutrition..it's amazing. It's also true for emergency medicine..the majority of doctors are lacking the skills in emergency procedures...less time in it..not saying they are not smart cuz they are they are just limited in that time..same with nutrition...the food pyramid..please..it's obsolete and based on FDA rules mentality. I spend a lot of time at schools also and based on the FDA, this students are eating garbage...oh well, this is my 10 cents worth...as a trainer/athlete..isagenix works for my clients and for me...i tried escargot once and didn't like it but at least i tried it. I also tried sushi and liked it..I've also tried all the protein shakes out there and some made me ill but some made me feel okay and others just rock..Open the mind and relax a little bit..:))
I love the product. For the first time in MY LIFE, I feel healthy. I have lost weight, and I have KEPT it off. You may call it "quackery", but the mainstream physicians are starting to realize CLEANSING is important. Sorry to burst your bubble.
I've never used the product and I've lost weight and kept it off for 3 years. I feel great, probably the best I've felt in my entire life.
All that I needed to do, was reduce the portion size of my meals, eat a better balanced diet with more fruit and vegetables and get off my (formerly large) backside and do more exercise. Guess what people. Eating less and exercising more actually works.
What's more, I also have money left over as I haven't wasted it on buying this product with it's spurious claims. That money has gone into buying sports equipment such as running shoes, cycling equipment and a wetsuit for swimming.
Ignore the hype, ignore the psuedo science about cleansing (all it does is line the pockets of the product sellers), ignore the expensive supplements, just try the more & less diet. Exercise more & eat less.
I started on IsAgenix July 23 at 165#s, over 55, and in a high stress job. Today I'm down 25#s and off Norvasc high blood pressure pills that I've been on since 92. I feel energized, strong & calm. I follow the program to a T and have never felt more nourished. Even on the days when I eat, my eating habits have been modified, taste buds have changed & less fat/sugary foods are desired.
Then HOW can this be bad? Not any single other diet program from WW, Nutrisystem, Zone, South Beach, Medifast or Jenny has done such a thing for me, and I've tried them all.
The price is high because the quality of the products are, too. Besides, my grocery bill, the time cooking, and junk food bought or LOOKING for food has been cut in HALF.
Now I dont' live to eat or feel like food has a choke hold on me for the first time in my life. I see myself doing it for a lifetime - NOW that I've reached my goal weight it costs about $150 a month. So all this blabber about $400 depends on how much weight you need to lose. But it is SO worth IT and far better than surgery or staying overweight thinking there is NO hope.
It absolutely doesn't matter to me how I buy Isagenix as long as I get it. These products are that effective. It has changed my life and I would buy it RETAIL if that was the way I had to get it.
HELP!
I started using Isagenix in Aug 2008 - went in wholeheartedly, was convinced I'd found the product that would help me lose a needed 200# and over the next 2 months spent a large amount of money, gave the program my very best shot and am now 3 months later about 20# over the weight I began.
I am so discouraged - I wish I knew what happened to me but it certainly wasn't what I hear so many other people describing. I feel like I got scammed but am ashamed to voice that thought as so many others seem to do so amazingly well on this product. Me? I had cravings all along, my candidas problem got worse(in spite of being told to be patient and stick with the program)I never was able to make it thru 2 days of a cleanse as the cravings were so intense all I could think about was food and how to get it and still try and stay on the program. I've stopped using the product but the intense cravings have not diminished.
I am currently hoping that I will find some kind of balance again and am not sure what to do with the $400 worth of product in my cupboard which I am terrified to take.
It is not my intention to detract from this product or put down those who use it - I'd just like to know if anyone else had a similar experience to me. On top of feeling ripped off, I'm also feeling very alone in my experience. I seem to be the only "isagenix failure" in the country.
Appreciate any comments.

This company should be posting the peer reviewed science so that we can have an informed discussion. Obviously people will lose weight if they are eating 200 calories or 1200 calories per day. But isn't anyone interested to know if they could acheive the same results using a generic meal replacement program at a fraction of the cost?
In April 2008, I was introduced to Isagenix by a good friend. Like many others, I was quite skeptical of Isagenix because it was sold through network marketing. Prior to Isagenix, I tried MANY of the other cleanse products that are on the market (Dr. Schulzes, Garden of Life, GNC, etc.).
Me experience with Isagenix has been nothing short of incredible! I lost my desired weight, feel better than I have in years, and no longer have issues with sinus problems which were common prior to starting the Isagenix cleanse.
I work in the airline industry and I am frequently exposed to toxins, germs, and unhealthy working conditions (different climates, time zone changes, constantly changing schedule/hours, difficulty eating healthy). Since starting the Isagenix program, I have noticed an increased feeling in my health and well-being and I do not feel rundown like I have prior to using this system.
Since beginning this program, my weight lost has not returned either.
For me, this program works and I personally have seen positive changes in my body/health. I enjoy the shakes, the want more energy, and the Ionix Supreme. However, I do not care for the taste of the soups.
I've been searching for a while to find some real people who have had genuine results with Isagenix who don't sell it. It seems like 99% of all positive comments I have found all have a link to "come buy your Isagenix here, I am an associate"
I was put onto this by a chiropractor my wife goes to, claiming that it will solve all my fibromyalgia symptoms and problems. Yes, I got the story and all the propaganda - toxins are stored in the fat, I need to cleanse to shed the fat, to get rid of the toxins. I will very quickly start to feel better, and have more energy, less pain, and live a better life.
Well, after a full month on the 30 day Isagenix program being willing to consider it for 3 months, I'm not really sure. Yes - I'm considerably lighter, by about 400. Dollars. I weighed 148 pounds when I started, I'm a normal build male, 5' 9" tall. I weigh 146 pounds now. I've done the cleanse - it's plain stupid, it's starvation of a body that has virtually no fat on it. Yes, I'm sure there is some fat somewhere, some little amounts on the organs, maybe between my ears, but there really is not much fat to burn off me. So maybe I'm just stupid, though a diploma in civil engineering and a successful career in high tech computer systems tell me I'm not totally stupid. After each starvation day, I am totally burned out for at least 2 full days afterwards. The day of the first cleanse, I was freezing cold, shaking badly and so weak, light-headed and nauseous I felt like I was not safe driving home. When I got home, I had a shower as hot as I could bear it, pulled on a full sweat suit and crawled into bed with a blanket and comforter and still lay there shivering, struggling to sleep.The next day I was down 4 pounds. 4 pounds of mostly water, because within a few days of a small salad for lunch and the shakes for breakfast and supper, it was almost all back again. Wow! That was a huge benefit to me. It was only the next day that I actually started feeling reasonably normal again, and then only after food.
So I did this foolish starvation day three more times again, only because I had made the commitment to my wife I would go through it for the full month at least, but for the next 3 starvation days I ate some food - a few lettuce leaves, a few slices of cheese and a few grapes or a clementine. That at least made it more tolerable and I didn't have the shakes.
So now 30 days are up and I have deliberately shifted my auto-ship date out by ten days, because I'm not convinced I want to continue with this, but I'm open to at least consider it, though I'm really not sure why, probably because my wife desperately wants to believe that this will cure me, which is what the chiropractor told her, in addition to chiropractic manipulations on me, of course. I'm sure Isagenix MLM commissions and chiro. charges are not all he cares about, but maybe I'm naive, or maybe I'm just being cynical and sarcastic - I'm not quite sure which.
So the end result - I feel no better, though people tel me I must do it for 3 months, because it took me years to get to this condition. Really? I weighed 170lb, started eating a reduced carb diet, mostly not eating breads, potatoes, pasta, and rice. I usually eat very lean home ground beef, very little junk, mostly fresh veggies and fruit, plenty of fiber, and over about 6 months I came down to 148 or so which I have maintained for close to 4 years. So where are the toxins stored since I don't have much fat? Aside from that, I don't feel any better at all, in fact, at times I think have more aches and pains, especially on starvation day and then for the next 2 days afterwards. I have no more energy, I have less, literally the day of, and at least two, maybe 3 days after starvation day, and this is consistent with every starvation day. Other days, I feel no different then before I started.
So now I have a decision, throw away another $300 and give it time to see if it really does take more time to find all these magical toxins, or quit now and stop wasting money. Maybe the weight loss is wonderful for some people, maybe this is the only way they can lose weight, and maybe they have more energy because they have lost the weight. That last part I can believe. More energy in somebody like me that people at work tease and call a scrawny little runt since I came down from 170 to 148? Dream on, I wish it were true.
Regarding Isagenix... I am a family physician and work in a private practice. Our office is responsible for a very large group of patients and we are very well respected. My partner was award family physician of the year in 2007. We have incorporated Isagenix in our practice and have seen amazing results in our patients and in each other. Unfortunately, allopathic medicine does not teach nutrition. I have gone on in my Master in Public Health to learn about nutrition and how amazing our bodies are. There is no magic pill or program that is the answer to all our problems. If we all ate and exercised the way we should then we would not see the chronic disease we see today. I take diet histories from my patient and I am always amazed at the lack of knowledge that people have regarding nutrition. Isagenix helps people to begin to eat in a healthy manner, to execise daily and to see food as nourishment instead of comfort, habit or a friend. Luckily, there will be studies coming out very soon looking at Isagenix and the health benefits. In allopathic medicine we want to provide evidence based medicine, meaning we need to see the studies before considering it a valid treatment option. The science of medicine is always changing. Our evidence-based practice change with the research. One day hormone placement is bad the next it prevents heart attacks then it doesn't and now it's not so bad after all. The Art of Medicine incorporates the science and the experience of the MD along with being able to feel what your patient needs. For some, Isagenix is just the perfect thing. To those who have not tried the product you should. It has made a huge difference in me personally. I went from being constantly tired, overweight and lack of energy to running daily, eating well and wearing a size 2. My 3 kids and husband love the change. My husband is an exercise physiologist and loves the product. My kids love the shakes.
I think my patients need more than just a pill.
I’m back again for the first comment of 2009. This subject has attracted the most comments of all entries to date. If not done previously, I thank Dr Hall for contributing the original article and recommend that people visit http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org where Dr Hall is a regular contributor.
There have been many comments saying that Isagenix has "worked for me". Many of the comments are related to weight loss and increased energy. That Isagenix may assist with weight loss is not what is being questioned. Changing to a low calorie diet will help reduce weight, particularly when combined with an exercise program.
I reduced from 120kg (264lb) to 80kg (176lb) over 3 years and have maintained that weight for a further 3 years, using the simple process of eating less and exercising more. There was no need for detox diets, diet shakes, pills or any other “magic bullet”. Reduce the size of your meal portions and increase the amount of exercise you do.
Dr. Hall provides a critique of the information placed on the Isagenix web-site. The web-site was full of scientific inaccuracies, such as the claims that most diseases are caused by toxicity and that the body creates fat cells to coat the toxins. Whether people can lose weight using Isagenix does not alter the fact that the information on the Isagenix web-site is full of misinformation.
The following post from an Isagenix dealer has been re-posted with advertising information deleted....
For the individual who wants help ... who said, "I gave the program my very best shot and am now 3 months later about 20# over the weight I began."
I want to acknowledge your bravery. I hear a commitment that you want to lose the weight and I feel your frustration, embarrassment, and despair in not getting the results you expected. I would like to support you in finding out why you have gained weight rather than lost it. As you indicated, that's an unusual result. Just curious, had you been checking your inches? Though unlikely, potentially, you could have lost inches and gained lean tissue.
I have coached probably upwards of 300 hundred people, including 100 who are patients of a couple doctors I accidentally turned on to the products. I will pull any strings and ask as many questions as need be to get to the bottom of what has happened in your case. Please email me or call and I will help you. I will coach you for free as I have all the others I've coached.
I have a case that might interest you where one woman did the program "by the book" as she thought and with inquiry, I later found out she wasn't drinking the appropriate amount of water.
In the example with my cleanser not taking enough water, the normal exit vehicle for the impurities was compromised and the weight loss results were not forthcoming. Interestingly enough, my cleanser tried the identical regimen again with the right amount of water and received better than typical results of 15 pounds released using the 9 Day Program. The happy ending was that she achieved her goal weight some 50 pounds later.
If you were already doing the right amount of water, there can be other factors that influence results. Getting coaching from someone with experience can render better results. I will be happy to coach you because I want to you experience the results you expected. The program is designed to support a healthier you. If you decided you don't want to do that now, it's okay too. I'll show you how to get your products refunded.
Feel free to call or email me at (Phone No Deleted) or (E-mail Deleted)
Happy cleansing!
P.S. (For those of you curious about the doctors I alluded to above... The only reason those doctors tried this program is one of them saw their husband do Isagenix. I gave him a 9 day pack not even knowing he was married to a western medically trained family practitioner. She couldn't help notice what happened to him and that lead to the inquiry. She admits if I had come to her door with this info prior to his experience, she would have sent me packing. She then introduced it to her business partner, who is California's 2007 Family Practitioner of the Year) Now, both doctors consider Isagenix as a necessary early step in treatment of their patients. From the beginning, they insisted I do not talk to their patients about the business opportunity. What they love about Isagenix is not so much as to what they see going on on the outside of the body, though that is also rewarding... it's what they see going on inside, by means of lab results, THAT keeps them offering it to their patients. Believe me, they are itching for double-blind studies too. We all want to know why this works! In many instances, as they are monitoring their patients medications, they are finding need to reduce them. We don't know why, but by results, we know it works. Their patients are literally thanking them.
I'm honored to be a part of a system of success - helping people transform their bodies from the inside out!
Peace to all! If you're contemplating it, do it. There's little to lose, way much more to gain. If you don't like it, the great customer service will refund your money for the products (not the shipping nor membership if you choose that option). I also recommend getting yourself a good coach to hedge your bets!
....... I'm happy to keep comments posted, but this is not the place to advertise your Isagenix Sales Web-site.
Comment from another Isagenix 7th Nov 2008 re-printed with advertising information removed. Mr.s Zeitler is an Isagenix Sales Person......
My name is Scott Zeitler. I live in Tucson, Arizona. I am a real estate broker and have been to law school. I ran track in college and have been an athlete my whole life. My three boys play club soccer and we live very active lifestyles. I have worked out (cardio and weights) six days a week for the past decade. For years my personal mantra was "work out hard and watch what you eat," w/the emphasis on the exercise. I mocked nutritionists and nerdy scientists like Dr. Weil who placed a much greater emphasis on calorie intake and healthy foods -- especially since he and many doctors appear to be so overweight and out of shape.
Then, last November, a client of mine introduced me and my wife to Isagenix. Honestly, I never would have tried the product if they hadn't been clients -- network marketing was all a scam and I'd heard of other cleanse products (I actually tried one I'd heard about on the radio) and had had poor results (one colon cleanse had me on the toilet non-stop for two days and left me feeling weak and sick).
When I started, my weight fluctuated between 182 and 185 pounds. I am 6'2". I was in good shape but had been feeling more and more tired, achy and sluggish. The nine day cleanse was brutal. I was angry, hungry and mean for the first week. I stayed w/it only because my body started to look different: the little paunch and love handles shrunk and muscles appeared more defined. At days 7 and 8, however, I began feeling and acting differently. Instead of my legs feeling heavy and achy after workouts, they felt tingly; I was much less irritable about eating less and actually began to crave fruits, vegetables and water instead of chips, processed snacks and soda. I started drinking 10-12 8 ounce glasses of water a day. In short, my energy level and feeling of well being increased dramatically.
After the 9 day cleanse, I only lost 8 pounds but felt much healthier and began to change some bad habits. Since then, I have lost another 15-17 pounds by drinking a shake in the morning along w/a bowl of healthy cereal; eating a light, healthy lunch and a full dinner at night (most nights, I also indulge in a little dessert).
I have maintained my increased energy, lean muscle, positive attitude and weight loss for a year now and I attribute it to the following:
1) The Isagenix cleanse -- I plan on doing another one after the holidays -- because I believe it washed away many of the toxins and poisons in my system which likely accumulated over time due to processed foods and drinks, stress levels and environmental pollutants.
2) The daily Isagenix shake, Ionix Supreme and vitamins.
3) Natural, healthy foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner such as granola cereals and bars, multi-grain breads and crackers, wheat pasta and organic fruits and vegetables.
4) Lighter, healthier servings at meals.
5) 10-12 8 ounce glasses of water each day.
6) Increased cardio and weight training due to increased energy and stamina.
7) Better sleep patterns and increased rest.
8) Focus on positive attitude and helping others which decreases stress levels.
9) Faith in God and the founding principles of our great nation.
10) Working hard each day to practice healthy habits and avoid those that are not.
Isagenix is not a cure-all. It is not a magic potion or bean that will allow you to gain perfect health and harmonious well being. What it is, though, is a nutritional cleanse that allows you a greater chance to strip out harmful toxins, encourages healthy cell growth and, maybe more importantly, healthy habits.
Feel free to use any, all or none of my experience to help yourself. In the end, I hope you do and I wish everyone tremendous health and success.
If anyone has questions or would like to discuss further, post a comment or contact me in Tucson at (e-mail deleted)
.........
I have noted that when you can track down the actual names, that many of the positive comments come from people who sell Isagenix through their MLM system. Scott & Tabiatha Zietler, Dani Klien and Annamarie in Durango.
Would it be too much to ask that those who are selling (or spouses) declare this in their posts?
I'll lead the way and declare that I earn not a single cent from any of my internet activities. I do not earn a single cent from any medical, pharmaceutical, nutitional, biological, supplement, weight loss or similar business.
(With the possible exception of investments in Managed superannuation (aka 401k in US) funds, where professional managers select individual shares on behalf of thousands of investors without any input or direction from me.)
Happy blogging for 2009.
Remember that weight loss is simple. Calories in must be lower than calories out. The rest is just hype and marketing spin to get the public to spend their money.
I don't know if any one has noticed? but just about everyone who is for this product sells it. The only difference between this product and the products sold as miracle cure off the back of a wagon is there no wagon just a website. Products or at least marketing like this is designed to take advantage of peoples desperation. They don't want to be part of the icky fat people group. But after a few months of this hype and after they put back on the 30 pounds that every diet sheds the only thing lighter is the pocket. but go ahead rant rave and argue. it will only serve to make you feel silly in the end even if you are write and this is a miracle supplement (maybe it will regrow hair if you rub it on your head) arguing won't prove it hard fact will. And by the way I am not a proponent of doctors either most are egotistical self absorbed idiots (some are great) but if you believe only those who stand to make money by you losing thirty pound you may not be the sharpest tool in the shed either and I would guess you voted for Obama. Go ahead pick this apart its all good but I still have lost a lot of money on products just like these and am still over weight and did the exercise part of it.
I thought it was a scam also! But it works and works well. I was put onto it by a real DR. A DR. who wants to help people not put money in his pocket or the drug companies' pockets! Its all about kick backs. I would highly recommend it. I lost 25 pounds since the begining of the year. My beautiful wife has lost just as much and we still eat things we like! Remember, just because a DR. says so doesnt make it correct!!!
It's sad that people have to be rude to each other when we are all trying to achieve the same result--health. Integration is the key. We need both Easter and Western forms of treatment. There are a lot of good M.D.'s and health care providers that see the benefits of complementary medicine and psychology. A votre sante,
KM
I think it is a total money making scam for the people selling this stuff. I was overweight i accepted it and had "a lifestyle change" no gimmicks.. no shakes... no cleansers.. I counted my calories and took a walk three times a week.. If I wanted that cheeseburger. I watched my calories in the am.. (STILL EATING MIND YOU) same for lunch... maybe a salad.. and at dinner I had my cheeseburger. ANY moron willing to spend 166 dollars a month to "loose weight" drinking a shake.. cleansing... or eating "their food" is stupid.. It can be done sooooo easily on your own.
My cousin and her boyfriend sell this stuff and everytime I see them it is all they talk about. They shove it down your throat.. why??? because they are making a TON of money selling this stuff to all of you morons stupid enough to buy it and make them rich. It is a Gimmick!! Me, my mom and my sister had a biggest looser contest beginning Jan 1 and it goes till March 31. All we are doing is dieting watching what we eat. and a little more exercise each week. My mom has dropped 35 pounds (she is 55 years old) her energy is insane. My sister has dropped 40 pounds and 2 pant sizes.. I lost 10pounds but I'm only 5"1" and started at 130 pounds. now I'm 120. ISAGENIX only "works" for the people selling it. Diet and exercise WORKS for everyone!
My guess is that the Doctor that critiqued Isagenix, Dr Harriet Hall, is a refrigerator with a head.
I've been a fat slob for most of my adult life and took on Isagenix with an attitude of, "There is no tomorrow"...not only have I lost 80 lbs in about 11 months, I've been able to shed, high blood pressure, high Cholesterol, and the inability to get a doinker at critical times...I'm like "Smiling-Bob" on the Enzyte commercials.
Shake and Cleanse is the way to go. I've never believed in any of the dieting plans but Isagenix is NOT a dieting plan, it's a life style change that will exceed all your expectations...
Sincerely,
"Smiling Elvis"
Elvis... the first step to loosing weight is admitting your a fat slob.. I've lost weight too.. by eating healthy, altering my portion size and talking walks and I didn't have to put $160+ a month in someones pocket to loose the weight. Be serious dude... if you paid that kind of money your an idiot.
I was looking for a decent, balanced critique of Isagenix.
I tried the Isagenix site and found no information other than their promotions and user proclamations.
My friend who is trying to get me on the stuff claims it helped her lose weight, get more energy, lose her fibroids, etc.
She is living in a big city with a high cost of on a low income and having the city help pay her back rent.
For her to be encouraged to pay out $500 a month or so on Isagenix is irresponsible and maybe even criminal. She has made zero cash from the company.
She told me Isagenix would help relieve my Hepatitis C! While it might help relieve some of the transient Fibromyalgia symptoms and thus, make me feel better, Isagenix ain't gonna cure the Dragon and it is the height of irresponsibility to suggest that it could.
I do take natural treatments such as Milk Thistle, Selenium and other vitamins/minerals and that seems to help me feel a tad better.
I am not recommended for conventional treatment at this time because I am pushing 60, have undersized cystic kidneys and at this point, relatively little liver damage.
But a regimen like Isagenix that causes ketosis, while possibly reducing the fat stores in my liver, would cream my kidneys. The fasting would destabilize my blood sugar
Like most such programs, Isagenix seems to promote a one-size cures all theory. That is not scientific or even common sense.
Years ago some acquaintances were promoting a very similar,high-priced program (diuretics, laxatives as cleansers and vitamins and herbs) and I declined that, too.
By the way, why in the name of Pete is the diuertic/laxative/starvation diet regime that is the standard regime of aneorexics and buliamics being touted as "healthy?"
I do not argue that the average American diet is full of junk and much of our food is nutrient deficient and loaded with fat and sugars. That is true.
I agree that taking some nutritional supplements and herbs (depending on your health and personal needs) can be a good thing.
But 15,000 U of Vitamin A a day is a toxic dosage.
As to ketosis: Ketosis can lead to renal failure if left unchecked. That's why such diets can be very dangerous over a long term.
I agree that much of big pharma and some doctors are pill pushers and do not have our best interests in mind. Soem drugs are toxic.But there are good doctors out there and not all pharmaceuticals are poison. I tried all sorts of natural remedies for a devasting depression (St.John's Wort, HTTP-5,GABA,SAM-E )and nothing helped by Serzone. However,I do know folks who were helped by the natural products.
I once lost weight by dieting. My diet consisted of three square meals a day, some snacks and limiting sugars and fats. On weekends I would allow myself a treat such as a milkshake or a sundae.I lost 40 pounds in two months.
In a cleanse/ultra-low calorie diet, your body will shed fat, water and as soon as you resume eating even a healthy normal diet, you will gain weight because when the body is starving, it starts eating it's own protein stores for food. You will eventually lose energy and just look gaunt. Do those scrawny models, actresses and socialites who starve to lose pounds look healthy? NOT!
As to the energy: If you are overweight and lose weight, you will gain energy. If you gain muscle, you will gain energy.
Say you are 50 pounds overweight - Imagine carrying around a 50 pound pack and then letting go of it. You will feel lighter and more energetic once you put down the pack! Same with those 50 pounds!
If you want to cleanse, go to the store, buy some psyillum seeds, some flax seeds or some senna tea.
~~~~
My biggest bugs with Isagenix are their lack of documentation, lack of mentioning possible side effects or dangers, broad unsubstantiated claims of health effects and cures of illness and the cost of their products.
I could get some high quality vitamin and mineral supplements, some psyillium seeds and eat a high quality diet of fruits, vegetables and lean protein and drink plenty of water for much less money than Isagenix.
Best idea: Occcasional cleanse, healthy diet,drink water,good supplements, fresh air, sunshine (but not to excess) exercise and a positive outlook!
Year before last I got real buff and felt great by swimming a mile or two several days a week!
If you have trouble keeping to the regimen, enlist a buddy or two to join you!
Oh, and I have found prayer helps me.
Another thought: Affects you at the cellular level? Huh? Anything bad or good that you eat, drink or breathe that is not spewed out by the skin,lungs, kidneys and bowels ends up affecting you at the cellular level. "Cellular level" is a buzz term used to hook those who don't know any basic chemistry or biology.
Thanks for your comment. I started seeing a counselor to help me think through my weight issues. She asked if she could share some personal information, and I said sure. She proceeded to tell me she was overweight (she was thin as a rail) and recently lost 40 pounds by doing a cleanse. Her cleanse consisted of shakes and wafers. I did not ask for details and she didn't offer any. I started to conduct online research about cleanes. I am not wanting to get sucked into a quick fix; rather am looking for a long term change in attitude that results in long term weight loss. At this time, I am wondering if she is using Isagenix. Being in the science field, I need more data on this product regarding possible negative side effects. It's been hard to find and I wish there was information on a placebo or blind trial. As well, I have a hard time with the marketing scheme. Amway did the same thing and I don't like this type of sell. I makes the product so expensive. I know the best way to lose weight is reduce calories and increase excercise. My lack of stickablity to this type of program is what lead me to counseling and working on the this issue. Now that my counselor has brought up her cleanse, I am not sure about her ability to help me get to my emotional cause for lack of self care. I need to shed 50 pounds.
I used Isagenix for a few months and it worked fantastic! The only problem was, once I stopped using it, I gained weight back and more! Isagenix is a scam. Yes, you will lose weight using it, but you aren't addressing the core issues. There are various reasons why we gain/lose weight. Emotional eating, decrease in exercise, psysiological changes, age, allergies, and on and on and on. First, find the core issues of why you eat what you eat. My Isagenix yo-yo experience taught me one thing: don't do it. I went from 225 to 205 on it, then rebounded to 234.5 a few months later. I now am at 195 and still dropping. How? I eat healthy, snack frequently, use psyllium husk as a fiber suppliment, and I don't do the whole "don't eat after 6pm" think. I snack before I go to bed. I sleep better, which means my cortisol levels are healthy. It's all related folks! The only thing that doesn't fit into my equation of healthy living is Isagenix. I'll never use it again because it didn't address the core issues - my overeating! Eat less but more. Eat more fiber. Eat less fat. Eat more veggies. Eat less meat. Eat more whole grains. Eat less cheese. Eat more yogurt. Eat less Junk food. Eat more nuts. Have an apple! DON'T drink Soda at all. Cut it out. It is no benefit AT ALL!!! Drink water. Good luck folks, it's hard!!!
I'd like to recommend another natural product that will guarantee weight loss - - tape worms! Yes! These have been used throughout history with proven weight loss results. You can buy the tape worms over the internet - just google it.
Isagenix is a scam. It works if you want to starve yourself. Not worth the days of headaches and wanting to sleep. Body is in shock from the lack of calories.
I just attended a local health information day and unfortunately walked unknowing and unsuspecting by the Isagenix booth. I was trying to carefully look at the ingredients while the rep told me all the benefits (including how much money he was making, no kidding). However, not once did he mention "detoxifying" or "cleansing;" he only mentioned "increased energy" and "weight loss."
Long story short, I drank about half of the aquasana bottle they filled with both the Want More Energy (orange) and IsaFruits (Berry). I couldn't get past how sweet it was, and then the horrifying part: my throat started to feel scratchy & sore, and then my glands were swollen. I stopped drinking it immediately. Over the next hour or so, it just got worse and then I had what can only be described as explosive diarrhea! I called the reps (luckily I had their card) and they called me hours later claiming both symptoms were due to a "detox reaction." They thought it sounded like a "Vitamin C flush."
Well, like others I tried to find honest, unbiased reviews (i.e. NOT from people selling this stuff) to try to see if people were having any similar reactions to what I was having. I couldn't find much, because the amount of crap tied into marketing sites is amazing. Glad this blog exists and hopefully someone will read this review.
Beware of the "detox" reaction, even if the person selling it or the package you are looking at doesn't make these claims! I'm still dealing with the swollen glands a day later, and am going to make sure those reps know.
Lesson learned from all of this? I will never, ever touch another Isagenix product again! I don't care what the claims are, but if I wanted to detox I could do it much more easily using lemon juice or even just water! And as far as all the other health claims they make, it just doesn't add up when you really look into it.
Of course people lose weight on the product - they take in way less calories. That's how it works.
You can do this on your own.
You can eat healthy, chemical free food , exercise and lose weight and keep it off. And yes you will feel better - you will have lost weight and be healthier than you have ever been...
The fact that the product right in it's ad says it has not been FDA approved and there is no evidence to support their claims of treatment worries me. I'm a biochemist...I know how it works, and I just don't see why this is better than something like Slimfast or another low cal diet with restricted caloric intake. You flush toxins by losing weight, as fat naturally stores some toxins. This is not new. This is not unique to this product...
Just try and be healthy. I've lost significant weight by changing how I eat and exercising. That's it...
I am amazed at the amount of ingnorance on this Blog. Whom ever allows this should be ashamed.
Dr. Harreit Hall believes herself to be an authority. To get a Medical Degree require 35 minutes of nutritional training so MD's are no authority on nutrition.
The roll MD's play is that of DRUG DISPENSER's for pharmaceutical companies. MD's keep American's addicted to drugs! MD's also fancy themselves as God like. They think that being an MD allows them to keep American's from seeking nutrition.
Dr Harriet Hall has an agenda of her own - an axe to grind with any company that focus' on nutrition and gets American's off drugs.
UCLA did a research study last year to find out that in order to get the same amount of Vitamin A and Iron from a bowl of spinnich from 1957, would take 43 bowls of spinnich today. So her comment about today's food being full of nutrients is a direct lie as she tries to keep American's enslaved to drugs that she dispenses.
Dr Harriett Hill doesn't understand Corporate Farming, Hybrid Seed, Pesticides and Insecticides are doing to the American diet. We have nutrient depleted soil from over farming and over use. We fertilize our soil with fake nutrients and usually do not replace with all 60 nutrients the plants need to be healthy so they are prone to diesease and incests. Plants are like our immune systems, we do not have the nurtients we need to keep our bodies being the miracles they are meant to be. Plants do not have what they need to defend themselves either.
If Dr Harriett Hall were really what she says she is - she would have contacted the company to discuss her concerns verse lashing out on some blog on the internet trying to make herself an authority when she is not an authority at all.
I know the Medical Doctor's who formulated some of the products in question. I know the formulator of their base products - John Anderson. He is the formost nutritional supplement formulator in America. Most of you are taking some of his products as he has formulated over 2,400 products for over 600 companies. He got fed-up with the nutritional supplement companies because they all cut corners. He started this company to save his own life and has succeeded.
So to all you individuals who think you know somethng - YOU DON'T. Keep you opinions to yourselves as most of you are showing your ignorance. For those of you reading their comments - don't. Listen to POSITIVE Comments and IGNORE the ignorant was who like blasting things they know nothing about.
Why don't you all educate yourselves before you post as you show your lack of knowledge and stupidity.
So just shut-up.
When one is cleansing out years of accumulation of toxins, chemicals, jet fuel, gasoline, arsenic, heavy metals, radiation poisioning - one will have reactions.
They guy that had his throat swell may have more toxins in his tonsils (that is what they are for) that would cause them to swell up.
He must not understand that. The sweetness is from natural plant source non-blood sugar affecting sweetners.
The formulators of the products in question are all long term Medical Doctors, Nutritionists, Mineral Specialists with excellent reputations.
Too bad those of you using this blog to hear yourself be extremely negative would take your concerns to the company instead of trying to make a name for yourselves and feel you have your moment of fame.
Isagenix is concentrated organic super foods. It is not replacing eating.
It is not a diet!
If you are hungry and using Isagenix - then eat, eat, eat.
Just don't eat processed foods.
Check out = www.processedpeople.com
We are a nation of processed people in many forms.
Processed Medicine - we are hurded like cattle by the AMA and Medical Doctors
Processed Politics - the polictical parties are hurding people like cattle being lead to the slaughter if you believe the Democrats or Republicans. If you buy into either one of their processed propaganda then you will believe what you are reading by people on this website - your really gullable.
Processed Food - we do not eat organically, fresh and raw. Juice more and eat less process grocery food, eating out and fast foods.
Isagenix can help this type of life style if you want to use it. It is all plant source nutrients, minerals, ammino acids, sugars and enzymes.
Use it for nutrition to help give your body the building blocks it needs to repair itself.
Most people only absorb 8% to 12% of what we eat - the rest is waste which we flush down the toilet.
With Isagenix we can absorb upto 94% of what is ingested with less waste going down the toilet.
Isagenix is full of good probiotics which help rebuild our digestive systems, fights candida.
Isagenix also helps the body become alkaline, which is a healthy body.
John Hopkins 2008 Cancer Report stated that cancer cannot live in an alkaline body only acidic bodies.
Processed food makes our bodies acidic - thus the epedemic of cancer and diabites in the USA along with heart disease.
So our Medical Doctors have failed us. Most MD's will not even take the death dealing treatments they inflict upon the rest of the population.
Medical Doctor's who work in Private Practice and in Hospital's make far more medical prescription drug mistakes than the public is ever aware of that result in death.
These same MD's slam nutritional supplements like Isagenix.
So I would suggest that Dr Harriett Hall take her concerns to her peers, Medical Doctor's on the Isagenix Advisory Panel like a professional to voice her concerns instead of slandering good nutritional products on the internet.
How un-professional of Dr Harriett Hall from Washington to lower herself to internet trash. She should have went directly to Isagenix to discuss her statements with fellow Doctor's instead of trying to scare or influence people who lack the knowledge to sort through the mis-information that is being disiminated on this website.
While I see well thought out commentary by both sides on this, one thing stands out as missing from those of you touting the merits of this program - answers to the authors questions.
I hear a lot of people saying how great their experience has been, and touting the many pounds they ahve lost. What I don't hear is what other changes have there been to their lifestyles besides taking these supplements.
Regardless of what nutritional supplement is taken there is the basic math to deal with. Weight loss is predicated on fewer calories taken in than calories burned. These are laws of physics, and are hard to argue with in any kind of coherent fashion. If ingesting these "nutritional aids" gets you to eat fewer calories than before, and gives you the motivation and energy to exercise more, I have no doubt you will lose weight.
My question for now is; what are the long term health effects of ingesting unknown combinations and concentrations of these nutrients?
I believe in the old saying all things in moderation, and if people would just eat more healthy (yes - far less processed fod), exercise more often, and not take things to extremes expecting extreme results we would all be healthier.
It would be nice if eating in moderation were the answer to especially American obesity.
We are being told by the AMA that childhood obesity and diabetes is growing at an alarming rate.
Highest at risk are the Latino community where childhood diabetes and obesity are going to be the worst.
Not to mention that our produce is sprayed with Pesticides, Herbicides, Fungicides, Incesticides. One of the main ingredients in these insect and plant killers is Estrogen.
Estrogen creates more fat in women. As men take in more estrogen, mens bodies start making more fat. We also get ED thus the big drug market in Viagra, Cyalis and Levetra (sp) prescribed by Medical Doctors.
So obesity has many causes, not just any one. Toxicity is a bigger cause than most want to realize.
We need to cleanse the inside of our bodies just like we clean the outside or body orafices, like our mouth and teeth.
Cleansing makes sense.
Isagenix IsaLean Shakes, Ionic Supreme and Cleanse for Life are not merely supplements.
Rather they are actual food from plant sources with the fiber, enzymes, vitamins and minerals in tact. It is like eating actual food but in a higher concentration.
UCLA did a study in 2008 that showed to get the same amount of Vitamin A and Iron from a bowl of spinnich from 1957 it would take 43 bowls of spinnich today.
Our soil is depleted from over farming and artifical fertilizing. When the soil has no nutrition then the plants are lacking in vitamins and minerals. We eat them so we do not get the nutrition we need.
Pretty simple problem and easily explained and shown that we have a problem.
I just read a study done in a inter-city school system in the mid-west where some schools were provided with organic produce and make healthy lunches for the children and other schools had fast food, desserts like jello, soft drinks full of sugar.
They showed the cafeteria at lunch time - wow what a difference.
The organic lunch school program had the children talking, being orderly and good manners.
The fast food unhealthy school programs had the children unrulely, throwing food, yelling, fighting and showing no respect to other.
Nutrition affects the brain as well and in this case the lack of nutrition showed alot of what we see in our society.
Austraila is leading the world in genetically modified seed which is shown repeatedly to be lacking in nutrition.
So bottomline - the majority of people fill their stomachs with foods void of natural nutrition and the evidence supports that they behave poorly, learn less, mis-behave more and commit more crimes than those who fill their stomachs with highly nutritious organic produce and meats.
I applaud any company that focus' on getting highly nutrtious organic super food into peoples hands as most people are not eating well, nor do they know how to eat well. A company that makes this possible with the least amount of effort, maybe more people will help themselves out and at least supplement their diet with one highly nutritious meal a day.
I applaud Isagenix for making this available to the public in the U.S. Canada, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Austraila, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
I applaude Isagenix for their incredible ability to convince people to buy something they simply don't need. There are a few people making A LOT of money by convincing people they need this product. Oh, and by the way, I have the shakes, greens, accelerator and several other products. I used it religiously for 2 months - I became lethargic and actually exercised less as I didn't have the energy. I lost about 20 pounds but rebounded. I did a lot of research, and found that Isagenix has nothing to do with weight loss - it's their low calorie diet that makes you lose weight. Take Isagenix OUT of your diet, add a multimineral vitamin and fibre (psyllium husk is WAY cheaper than Isagenix), eat the same amount you did on Isagenix and voila! you will lose just as much weight. Anyone who is touting the wonders of Isagenix is more than likely selling the stuff. Do your homework - I did mine - Isagenix is not worth it. Eat real food - that's what is 'natural' for your body, not a bunch of crap packed into a plastic container. Save your money, and yes, it's cheaper to eat real, healthy food.
Wow..yet another Medical Doctor that knows nothing about Health and Wellness!! What a surprise! I am sure you prescribe your patients large amounts of pharmacuticals and drugs in your practice, which by the way is the ultimate money making scam out there!! Isagenix is a divine blessing in this toxic sick world and shame on you for not doing your research properly. This product change my health in ways that no doctor ever could and I know thousands of people out there that feel the same. Anyone who reads this blog please do your own research before listening to this perosn. MD or not, just because you went to medical school dosen't mean your are a smart person. Isagenix is just food! It is the best source of nutrition on the planet!! Doc Hall probably drinks diet Coke and eats at McDonalds but dosent have a problem with those ingredients! So sad that people in our medical profession have no idea what they are talking about!!!
I believe Dr. Harriett Hall. Her explanations here demonstrate what 99% of MDs know to be true. I exclude non-medical doctors because they are not physicians.
Isagenix is a scam, it is what it is. The benefit people may derive from the use of those products is due to the change in eating habits and lower caloric intake. Not the products they peddle. But the misinformation promulgated by the marketing efforts of this company and its distributors, the unregulated claims that these supplement manufacturers make without scientific proof all contribute to people’s ongoing deception and objectivity.
The sad thing about all this is that it will take several people's death and injury for people to open their eyes (just like it happened with many other supplements). Also the ironic thing is that these same folks that today are supporters will most likely become my clients when the class actions suit or independent lawsuits start.
What does a M.D. know about nutrition? Nothing. Allopathic "doctors" such as this one are so quick to write off supplements and dietary measures as useless but will not hesitate to put you on a boatload of pharmaceutical drugs that mask symptoms and wreak havoc on your body long term. You see, modern medicine is all about $$$$ not health which is why you have articles such as this one.
Who cares whether it works or not. This stuff tastes like 9-day old garbage mixed with water from a sewer. Have to admit I felt great the first day...but that taste..OMG. Whoever says it is "DELICIOUS" is seriously lying. I have lost 10lbs in 9 days running and eating sensibly...change your eating habits and excercise. It is much cheaper and healthier. Not a quack MD either.
Reading a few of these comments people are saying "It works, I lost weight"...Ofcourse you will loose weight drinking a shake 2 times a day to replace meals and only eating a small lunch with 4 almonds as snacks in between, who wouldn't loose weight. No matter what product you take...You can create your own programe, drink a protein shake in the morning and at night then and just have a tuna salad for lunch, test it, i bet you will loose weight.
It's about a healthy life...We need food as fuel not shakes. How much better can powder be for you than a real fruit or vegg juice (fresh) they usually put 4 carrots, 2 oranges, some pinapple, apple. YUMMMM not a powder with water.
Common people, they just want your money. This is the society we are living in. We get scammed into things so easily.
Don't get me wrong, i believe in multi vitamins.
Personally, I have tried isagenix from a friend. It made me SICK. theres one day that you cant eat anything except drink some powdered juice that looks like urine. now that is not right.....
i have so much to say about this product but i'll just leave it now otherwise i'll go on forever.
JUST DON"T DO IT. eat well, exercise and if you want to loose weight drink honey and cinnamon as a natural weight loss accelerator :)
I am a chiropractor. I am 6' 1" and was 283 lbs. in January '09. I was not well at all. High BP, tired all the time, joints ached, sugar highs and lows, etc.
My mother died about 10 days after a stroke she suffered the day after Christmas '08.
I felt I needed to do something about my health problems but I didn't know what to do. I tried dieting and would lose a little and bounce right back. My associate doctor heard about this program and asked me if I wanted to hear more about it. So he invited another Chiropractor to come to our office and share this product with us. The timing was perfect for me. I started the Isagenix program on Feb. 3rd and in one month I lost 40 lbs. The next month about 20 more and the third month 10 more. That's 70 lbs. in 90 days. I feel incredible and I starting noticing the changes within the first week. I slept better, had way more energy, I lost the cravings for milk and dairy products, stopped drinking Pepsi, and high fructose corn syrup juices. I still drink one of the shakes a day to replace one meal (either lunch or dinner). This stuff works and I am living proof that it does. So for all you skeptics out there who think you know what you are talking about, take it from someone who has actually done it .... this article is and the author is full of crap. I know it and he knows it.
anything not backed by the FDA is reason enough for me to run far far away. ive done enough research to know this product is pure crap. from the sales pitch to the crappy product itself. another way for people to scam people. fake product for all those desperate takers out there. cleanses are not meant to be long term. and you can do your own cleanse just by fasting for 24 hours. when it comes down to it you must eat healthy, exercise, and drink lots of water. in short: isagenix is crap...run far away...dont invest in the marketing scam...for all you people selling isagenix GET A REAL JOB!!!!!!!!!! im so sick of these slick marketing scams where people sell a dream rather than an actual good working product!!!! ISAGENIX IS CRAP!!!!!!
I am a 20 year veteran of the US Navy Special Forces, A certified personal trainer and Co-Owner of an Athletic Club.
For the skeptics, there are many products out there and it's true that due diligence is needed when searching for quality nutrition. I agree with many of the posts that talk about this Doctors dislike for Isagenix and his apparent in-depth knowledge of nutrition. My experience with Doctors is that they have no idea what good nutrition is and are typically over-weight and in need of a good trainer and nutritional guidance.
Less calories are key for most American's, more movement (exercise) is essential for the same, but quality nutrition must be part of the solution and you don't get it from most of the foods people eat these days.
I don't recommend anything without trying it myself, and I've tried many products, Isagenix is good nutrition with great results if used as designed in conjunction with a good fitness plan. There is no one thing to make us better, but there are a combination of necessary pieces that must be placed to complete your over-all wellness plan.
Try it in the manner it was deigned to be utilized, with some quality work in the fitness arena, and I guarantee results.
Let's give it 5 years!!!!!! Then all those suckers that bought into it can really see the side effects. I have many friends (sad to say) who "bought" into this scam. first they are soooooooo pumped up about it and trying to sell everyone from family to friends to co-workers. Its almost sad to watch & cult-like!! The product is pure crap. I've heard nothing but negative side effects like headaches and constipation and major stomach cramps. All they seem to do is talk about all these doctors who back this product. But when a friend of mine took it to her doctor he advised her not to take it and she could achieve the same results by eating less & being active. Americans are an easy target these days because weight is such an issue with everyone. I just wish they would research this product more. take it to your doctor. don't listen to the isagenix "doctors" who are getting paid to promote the product. Its not FDA approved people!!!!!!!! REASON ENOUGH!!!! and to all you people selling this "dream" i agree with the person above..GET A REAL JOB!!!!! maybe you will lose some pounds by doing some actual work!!!!!!!!
Like an idiot, I signed up for Isagenix' (http://www.isagenix.com) MLM scheme. My complaint follows: I informed my "Enrolling Sponsor" (the person who signed me up as an Associate/Salesperson with the company, which promised me a significant product discount for doing so) that both myself and my husband would like to TRY the products before being signed up for any autoship programs or selling any products, so we could evaluate our experiences with the products on our time. I am not the type of person to sell something I don't use and absolutely love.
My husband and I ordered two of Isagenix' 9-day cleansing programs, and upon trying them, I had a reaction to them (sinus congestion and digestive distress) due to the milk products used in their so-called cleansing formulas. I am very sensitive to milk and experience has told me that no cleansing program should ever feature milk as one of its components. My "Enrolling Sponsor" and other Associates told me this cleansing program was "different". It was not. As well, their cleansing products use fructose and some other sugars which most healthcare practitioners will tell you do NOT belong in any cleansing program whatsoever.
I reported our experiences to my "Enrolling Sponsor", along with the declaration that I could not in good faith sell the products unless the company made significant changes to its ingredients. Even my husband told me that he didn't care to order Isagenix products again, saying that they were a ripoff money-wise. I have to agree, as I have experiences with many other similar products that were far better for a fraction of the price.
Flash forward one month and surprise! My husband and I get a UPS delivery of two more cleansing programs. I emailed my original "Enrolling Sponsor", who took the blame for not adjusting my account accordingly. She claimed she was "busy" in her emailed response to me. My husband and I refused the shipment and it was sent back to Isagenix. I received an email saying the package was sent back and received by a (named) receiver in the company's warehouse. I called Isagenix to report what had happened and verify the package's receipt, and sent several emails to my "Enrolling Sponsor" and Isagenix' complaint email address. I also called them on the phone to make the complaint audible, and was told my money for the unauthorized autoship would be refunded, but not for 30 days.
I never received a response from Isagenix' complaint department, either by email or by phone. Five weeks went by and our credit card was refunded for all charges except $50.40. My husband and I wondered, now what? So he called the company and got an answering machine at the company's designated Returns phone number. He was never called back as the message promised. So I instructed him to call again and choose the option for their Sales or Accounting departments, just to get someone on the line.
15 minutes into the call, and all my husband got was excuse after excuse, then was redirected to someone else, who finally gave us the excuse that "shipping was not refundable". Little did we realise we were responsible for paying for Isagenix' (or their "Enrolling Sponsor's") mistakes. But that is the case.
How does it feel to be ripped off? In a customer's mind, not very good at all. This experience with this company will stay with both my husband and I for some time to come. We will continue our complaints until we are compensated fully for the charges on our credit card. We will not back down and let yet another company nickel and dime us on the basis of a blatantly unfair "company policy", a policy in which the company pockets unearned money while treating its customers like dirt.
Refund our money, immediately. ALL of it. The company tried to placate my husband with $20 out of the $50 owed us, but we are not satisfied with even sacrificing $30 of our hard-earned cash for a mistake on the part of Isagenix International. We have archived emails to back up our claim
I had a similar and aweful experience with this cleans,product, and
salesperson which my doctor later scolded me for using in the first
place. Not only did it drop my immune system so low that I got two
infections and ill, but so did a number of my family members and
friends. When I dared warn people to simply consult with their doctor
before committing to this program which I had diligently and
regretfully completed, I got hostile emails from the salesperson
instead of concerns.
There is a reason the FHA will not approve this product, and it is NOT
because they are worried it will heal people and take money away from
them like the salespeople lead you to believe. The more people I see
getting sick from this product the more I know, you are a fool if you
get sold into this product without consuting with your doctor first.
I don't know why ANYONE would try this "cleanse".
I attended a meeting last night. I had never heard of this stuff
before, but then I received an e-mail from a friend inviting me to a
meeting.
What a load of garbage!
I'm a personal trainer by profession, so I do believe that
supplementation is useful when added to a healthy, balanced, realistic
diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean meats and complex carbs.
But this stuff goes way beyond what I consider in my professional
opinion to be healthy.
I guess people who "cleanse" do lose weight. They're not eating for 9
days! Give me a break!
How can anyone who tries this expect to stay on it for the rest of
their life? Because really, it is a lifestyle. If you don't intend to
change your daily habits in a realistic, healthy way that you can
maintain forever, why bother?
And then there is the whole multi-level marketing thing going on. What
a scam that is. Did you know that there is a 97% failure rate in MLM
schemes?
Come on people, get real!
First of all, I am a little concerned about the way some people discuss this product in almost cult-like fashion. It makes me wonder if there are mind-control drugs in this stuff, but most likely it's a money thing (it always is). It's like the new Amway.
I have tried to use this product twice now based on "testimony" by people I actually know (my ex-chiropractor, who happens to sell this stuff). Both times it made me sick as a dog. I saw it suggested that this is normal as the body "de-toxifies". Well, your body de-toxifies constantly. This type of reaction is what your body does to poison. Think about it, I would feel the same way if I drank a cup of Chlorox, granted without the severe burning.
Secondly, drastic immediate weight loss is not healthy. How can you tell? Because severely ill people lose weight drastically. People with cancer lose weight drastically. I myself can lose 30 pounds in two weeks when I have had clinical depression. That should tell you something. Your body builds fat to keep you alive when food is scarce. It should not want to lose it so rapidly.
There is no secret to weight loss. It is like a check book. Make large deposits (eating calories) and the balance goes up. Make smaller deposits and more withdrawals (excerise) and the balance goes down. I was able to lose 25 pounds safely and fairly slowly by simply not eating as poorly. When I started to pig out again, I gained it back. Not rocket science.
Looking at the cleansing stuff, it's mostly pounding serious B6 and B12 and some potassium. You could probably take a heavy B vitamin complex and eat a banana and get the same result. What's causing you to lose weight is the fact that you're starving yourself. Doing the 9-day program as suggested provides insufficient calories and that's why you're losing weight. Pounding water has shown to have no benefit other than to make you pee a lot and not notice that you're starving.
As far as feeling better, you'll feel better with less weight no matter how you get there. The rest, I believe, is a placebo effect, and that's fine, I guess. As for me, I have been feeling better ever since I stopped having my head wrenched and being put on a rack and practically decapitated week after week, except for the apparently permanant click in my neck that wasn't there before.
Bottom line, if you use this stuff and don't change your eating habits, you'll gain all the weight right back again. There's better, safer ways to lose weight, but you actually have to work at it, not just throw money at the problem.
I bought into the great Isagenix scam.My experience with Isagenix left me 60# heavier and hundreds of dollars lighter.
My reaction to the product was not very positive. I struggled immensely with the cleanse days, rarely being able to make it even to the second day. I had a chronic yeast infection (which I begged them for help with, only to be offered more product and advice that was virtually useless) a history of yoyo dieting and a desparate desire to make this "miracle" product work.
I shouldv'e followed my instincts from the beginning but was persuaded by the sucess of others on the team that I just needed to hang in and keep trying product. By the time I accepted that this product and the way it is marketed had triggered some pretty negative stuff for me, I was well past the 30 day refund date.
As far as I am concerned these people are vultures, waitng to prey on a very vulnerable group.
It has taken me 5 months to get back on track physically and emotionally after my experience with this product. I guess the one positive aspect is I gained confidence to know I'll NEVER be sucked into a marketing scheme like this again.
My advice to anyone(especially Canadians who get dinged huge shipping costs and rediculous rates of exchange on our dollar) is to go to your local health food store and ask for advice. I took my Isagenix containers to my local store and had the owner show me ingredient by ingredient how Isagenix is actually inferior to and MUCH more expensive than similar products on her shelf.
If you are still in doubt what this company is really all about - go to one of their team meetings and pay attention to what is really going on - these people are primarily a marketing scheme. They have found a product that seems to have some measure of success and they have brilliantly figured out how to milk it for all it is worth.
If you go ahead and try it anyway, well all I can say is I hope you are one of those "success" stories Isagenix displays. If like me, you become one of their unadvertised "failures" - don't beat yourself up too badly, just remember some of my advice
I purchased the 30 day Isagenix cleansing products and am into day 9. I have gained two pounds. I am completely disappointed and am hoping the company gives me my money back. The first two days were nothing but severe headaches. The following two days were fine but the cleanse day on the fifth day was painful. Not because I was hungry but because I was so tired I thought I was going to die. I was just paralyzed. This is day 9 and I am not hungry but there is no results and for me personally it is a scam. I have eaten under 1000 calories a day and gained two pounds. There must be something in the accelerator pills. I won't even eat their snacks they taste like chocolate flavored hay. I would rather eat food for the 1000 calories than drink shakes and take pills. Ohhh, when I emailed the company to tell them about my complaint...NOTHING! Not really supportive of their clients. It is multilevel marketing and I am not going to do well for their business if anyone knows I gained weight doing what they say to do. Good luck.
YES IT IS A SCAM!
I was suckered in by (two) 2 individuals working for http://www.isagenix.com they worked for them part time 'selling these amazing products'
I went to a meeting at a grocery store.. I found that weird that they claiming to be the best not have there owns offices in Canada.
Well me being stupid I decided to try there products out the 30 day system is about $350.00 USD ... then I had to pay a membership fee to get the products cheaper I found that abit odd but didn't say anything..
Then what happens is they started to charge me twice (two) times 350.00 USD and I kept calling them and nothing...
I went on there website and spoke with someone online and they offered nothing to me .....
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY LET ALONE ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS COMPANY....
Cleansing one's body is the hot topic of the decade...and companies are raking in the money, selling products to accomplish a task for which the body is mightily capable of achieving on its own....
What really 'get's me is people actually believe these products are necessary to cleanse the body, when the lungs and kidneys and liver and other organs are extremely well equipped to do so, on a moment by moment basis.
How dare any company play on the fears of humanity by telling them their intestines are filled with poisons, their lungs are filled with toxins and all the other bull allegedly stored in your fat cells.
There is a very simple solution and it's called eating foods and drinking water....and they attach themselves to the so called toxic molecules and run them out of town..... your very well put together body system was built that way.....it's a complicated system .....and all of the body's systems are geared to rid themselves of these poisons.
When you add in your stuff, odds are the beneficial friendly bacteria goes out the door, too...and destroys a very carefully balanced eco system....
So, please, when you come into forums, asking very reasonably and innocently about these products...make sure you aren't going up against some of us who actually study these things. It's not spamaphobia that drives me to truly get angry at these products.
And, it's certainly not totally the fault of those who manufacture this crap that angers me. The consumer is just as accountable for buying into these claims...and spending money on this when they could be buying a gym membership or healthy foods.
But, when people like you come into forums and prey on those who are truly wanting to lose weight...and yes, i used the word prey....because at the point of weighing the most, there is a vulnerability that you exploit...and that's when i really get angry.
You want to sell your stuff? Fine. But, don't come in here, cloaked with good intentions, when in reality, you're here to sell to people who are in the throes of frustration and who are really trying to get rid of that which made them unhealthy in the first place.
One does not have to experience snake venom to know to stay away from snakes.
Experience with your product or any other, for that matter, is totally unnecessary if one has intimate knowledge on how the body functions and a healthy dose of common sense.
Your statement is condescending, in that opinions do not 'count' if the product has not been tried.
Predatory marketing is not new. Credit card companies conduct this type of marketing ad nauseum.
Weight loss and cleansing programs are no better. They prey on those who have hit the wall and are susceptible to scare tactics, companies whose marketing techniques are designed to sell a product that is worthless. Worse than worthless.....it's scary for those who did not study anatomy and physiology.....who do not have a clear understanding about how the body functions, the extraordinary design of our bodies.....
What are YOUR credentials? That you can come into this forum or any other....and expound on the delights of cleaning out one's system in such a way that will NOT benefit anyone but the manufacturer.
These products are dangerous, more so, BECAUSE of the methods used for marketing them, not so much for the products themselves.
I always gag when I hear someone railing against nutritional products go on to site sources like quackwatch or the FDA as credible information. I thought it was common knowledge by now that the author of quackwatch, Stephen Barrett, has conceded in court testimony that he has ties to the American Medical Association and the FDA, and is literally funded by them to produce dis-information aimed at discrediting alternative health.
Do you people really trust the doctors, the FDA and AMA who so blatantly have their hands in the pockets of pharmaceutical companies to keep you informed about your health? This blog and most of the detractors posting here refer to isagenix (which is an excellent product btw) as a scam. That's really hilarious because the biggest scam ever would be the prescription drugs your doctor prescribes for you and the fraudulent insurance system you have to go through to get your fix. Yet no one is talking about that Scam!
Americans trudge on blindly, eat fast food and watch american idol while the rest of the world laughs at our ignorance and utter inability to think critically for ourselves.
But sure you can trust your government... Look at all the great things they did for the Native American people.
Isagenix works and it works very well. I have used the product and had excellent results with it (lost 70 pounds). I met a lot of people a week ago at the Anaheim Convention Center in Orange County, CA, and heard testimony after testimony from others who have had the same experience. NOBODY had adverse side effects like some have written about here. This is not a colon cleanse, it is a tissue cleanse of the vital organs. You are not 'running to the bathroom' as a few have suggested in these idiotic comments I have been reading. I think these people who write this negative crap, like the author of this article, are just jealous of those who have the will power to follow the program. I now have my patients using the Isagenix products. Everybody has done well using this. Nobody has had a 'bad experience' and those who say there is something wrong with the product are just making it up. I don't do this for the money because I already make a great income. I do it because I was overweight and it worked for me. Plus I had a difficult time suggesting that my patients lose weight to help their back pain when I was overweight myself.
Don't listen to these B.S.'ers telling you the products are bad. They are designed and formulated by professionals and advocated by professionals.
I have the before and after pictures and the lab tests to prove it.
Isagenix is the real deal. Those who put it down are either ignorant or just plain jealous of those who have transformed their bodies and become healthier.
I feel great, lost 70 pounds of fat, I have much more energy and I am living proof that this product works.
I am a massage therapist. 3 years ago a conartist got me to buy 30 days of this crap. After a week of eating this crap... I sent it back. Through the next year I met so many people that lost weight on this Isagenix crap that I decided to buy this crap again. I guess I am a sucker for crap. I got the box of crap and actually read the directions this time. I shed 55 pounds with 2 thirty day programs. My wife shed 90 pounds with 4 thirty day programs. My 72 old Mom shed 53 pounds with 2 thirty day programs and my son shed 30 pounds with 1 thirty day program. A few hundred people I ran into asked me what I did to lose the weight.... so I told them to buy a box of this crap.
I have been enjoying this crap for two years and kept my weight off. My suggestions to the nonsense from the ignorants is buy a box of this crap...read the directions and enjoy a healthier life. www.thirtydayprogram.com
Has anyone else had violent diarrhea and stomach cramping while on Isagenix.. It works--Yes..I have lost inches and 5lbs in 10days.. but every time I drink a shake I immedialetely start to not feel well and then have diarrhea for the rest of the day.. I felt great for the first 4 days on it, now ugh...is this the normal part of the deep cleanse..will it get better??
OK, HELLO PEOPLE, It doesnt take a Rocket Scientist OR a Doctor to figure that if you CONSUME FEWER CALORIES = (everyone together now) you lose weight. Tell me I dont have to explain why! So for everyone saying well me and so and so are on it and the weight we lost proves it works. Ok so why dont you stuff your 350 dollars in your pocket for one month and start replacing your shakes with homemade liquid meals and you will probably be surprised, you'll still lose weight. Guess what I lost six pounds in six days with hip hop abs, why because the diet was mostly vitamins and liquid, and guess what I lost weight. Surprised I bet you are. Please note I am in no way supporting Hip Hop abs diet, its just a personal reference to my opinion. People, Dont brainwash yourself to think the only way you can live a healthy life is by Isagenix. Their claims are outrageous, check out www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/01/worst_diets.html -
or google worst diets of 2006.
People, choose food products wisely, put the fork down win your not hungry anymore not when your full, get 30 minutes minimum of good heart pumping excercise 5 days a week, Shop farmers markets for your locally grown organic. You will get results and best of all its free. Someone would think this is Rocket science or something. Anyone else think whats trully pathetic is sellers of Isagenix making claims that Doctors no the least about health issues etc.. But because Isagenix sellers were brainwashed with a book that they read in a couple days they know more??? Interesting anyone can prescribe things these days. My prescription to you: Drink a pot full of common sense.
Dang it! I should have reviewed before publishing. Forgive my spelling errors its 1 am my time. and again im no rocket scientist.
Here is my personal experience with Isagenix:
I bought and followed the isagenix regimen (shakes, cleansing, etc.) for 45 days and lost 35 pounds.
Just a statement of fact...
I do not sell this product, nor do I think it will work for everyone.
well i believe that I may be one of the few people who has some sort of sensitivity to the IsaCleanse... I one used it one day and had violent diarrhea for the next 5 days.. now they have IsaCleanse powders...?? I wonder why? where alot of people getting diarrhea using the liquid.. No doubt if u stick to the program you will lose weight... but not a fun way to spend the day--on the toilet !
Hey people..Im Female,39 5'7 and 248lbs.(But still very cute I must say)
Im starting the program today 9/26/09 I will do the cleanse and let u know how it goes everyday,so far its ok nothing hurts,lots of stuff coming out in bathroom but no pain.. not tired,very relaxed watching tv, cleaning up the house NO PAIN NO PROBLEM
so lets see about costs....
..I want people to think about how much it cost to get coffee in the morning and maybe some fruit or a bagel/roll....Lunch is even more money no????...Im in NY so its about $16.00 for both on a good day.... I'm also SOOOOO excited to have more time in the AM to sleep beacuse I'm not cooking or going to the deli.Thats such a plus more time to do me.
I also loooking forward to having it at work I can do a quick yummy healthy shake.And be full and satisfied.and not have to leave my office.
I will also always make sure I have a great dinner with friends with regular foods..... people on this blog people make it sound like you dont get to enjoy food at all YOU DO just less crap then before!!! (BUT NO PROCESSED FOODS)
And now I can watch spending that I will see on my credit card rather then the cash everyday I and you reading this as well dont monitor!!
Now I read on the info when you do the cleanse detox that is only 2 days A MONTH ONLY!!!!(one day at a time for me I wont do two days in a row like others at first maybe next month they give you that option) and if you feel hungrey THEY SAY EAT and they give you a great list of snacks to choose from.Why do people on here say you cant eat during detox cleanse you can if you need to..everybody is in control of the system IF YOU NEED IT ... EAT IT!!!!
NOW...The wimps I see on here....if you have pain and tons of poops at first. (and feel terrible) its the DETOX PEOPLE its just like at my dental office,when I clean peoples teeth they say it hurts...bleeds...smells as im doing the cleaning WELL ITS BACTERIA PEOPLE REMOVAL OF IT HURTS SOMETIMES BUT DONT LET IT COME BACK AND YOU WONT HAVE PAIN AGAIN!!!Its the same with this program keep it up and you wont feel the pain again!!!!!. I also am taking medications that I hope next month I wont need anylonger due to Isagenix($15.00 medication co/pay no longer)...We need help in this country people...we are LAZY...this helps you to deal with lazy by making it somewhat easier and get healthy at the same time.. I DO NOT SELL THIS PRODUCT(not yet anyway if works i might but i am just a user a new user at that)
My pizza man looked really good and I asked him what he did and this is how I found out..lol...So Im gonna try it.If its easy and less/same money and Im going to loose inches and feel better with it.I keep it up for life....ILL LET YOU KNOW...talk soon.... Thanks..Anna Nicole double P.S. I wrote this quickly spelling might suck....DONT BE A HATER ITS NOT HEALTHY!!!!!
Isagenix and Scientology or Dianetics
Can anyone help me establish the connections between Isagenix and the bogus religions: dianetics or scientology? I have a bet riding on this (and my reputation as a BS detector).
Thanks and feel free to e-mail me at:
billoetjen@gmail.com
I just started this product a few days ago. I am hoping it works but we'll see. What I do know is I am 20 pounds overweight, tired and just overall don't feel great. I was making poor eating choices and yes, I know very well what I need to do. I have a degree in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition. I know I need to eat fresh organic produce, lean protein, fiber (raw food is even better!) and exercise for an hour a day. It's not that easy.
When I fit into my size 4 pants and cute tops I loved going to the gym, not so much now that I have a gut.
When you don't feel good about yourself on the outside, it can be difficult to make better choices. I am cautiously optimistic this will give me a little incentive to clean everything up. I do know that all of the ingredients in the product are a lot better than what I was doing, so what is the harm? To each his own. I envy my friends that get up at 5, run 6 miles, make healthy meals, juice, etc. I am not that person. I think it's negative to deter people from making healthier choices however they see fit. One thing will not work for everyone. If you take the time to read the labels, there are no stimulants (green tea extract in one)in these products that are in the multitude of diet pills on the shelves today. There are vitamins and minerals, protein...can't be that bad. Sure it might be better to have a nice raw organic meal...but if you don't have the time and are going to eat "fast" food, this is way better for you.
And for all of you that are defending the MD's on this blog, let me offer you a little insight on that topic. I spent five years as a pharmaceutical rep working for one of the major companies. I also have MD's as friends. They are trained (not their fault)to perform "curative" medicine. You have a problem they have a band aid, usually in the form of a pill. They do not address the cause of these issues, and truthfully, they really don't have the time so I don't blame them.
I am not speaking on all Dr.'s so no need to attack but what I did observe was they ABSOLUTELY prescribe based on drug co. information, reps, incentives, etc. It was repulsive.
They will also prescribe you a drug because the formulary of your insurance company makes it so irritating to prescribe anything else. So you are getting a drug not b/c the doctor thinks its best, because some guy up the food chain at Ins Co A. struck a deal with a particular drug co. so they use ALL their drugs.
We also were encouraged to coerce and offer "incentives", don't fool yourselves, it happens in one form or another.
So I say, however you want to safely improve your health after you have done your own research, good for you. Don't knock other people for trying and certainly don't be so critical.
Oy, Anon, NOW I have a headache...
Can somebody please connect the dots for me? Why do so many dianetics robots also hustle Isagenix?
Coincidence... or conspiracy... ?
You be the judge.
Just kidding. But I would like to know the connection between the two cults.
As most people know, real doctors don't waste their time sitting on the internet making bogus posts about different health products. They are far too busy for this kind of crap. Heck I can write posts all day long and sign them as if I were a medical doctor and then all the crack jobs would come out of the wood work and get bent out of shape.
I too went to the Isagenix web site because I have a few friends that take Isagenix and they look better then I have ever seen them. They are dealers of Isagenix and they tell me that Isagenix has a 30 day money back guarantee. That tells me that I have no money to lose. I am willing to try their products for 30 days. There is nothing in the ingredients that will harm me, so what do I have to lose? A whole lot of weight I hope.
Any way, I can't believe I posted on here as I am just doing some research on the products and found this site.
Any way, thanks for listening
Dr. Dave LOL I am not a doctor but I can sign it any way I like, and all the gullible people out there won't know the difference. Yes, I am talking to you!!
I am not sure what pharma company pays for that analysis but I know from experience. I have been using natural health products for over 20yrs, because at age 19 my doctor wanted me to start beta blockers, after much investigation I decided that I was to young to have my liver contaminated by these pills so I went to a natural path and found that hawthorn and garlic worked just as good without the side effects for me. I am not saying that for some people there aren't side effects but more people die from prescription side effects annually then from natural health products taken for the same illnesses. And I never hear anything from the medical field about elevating the PH level in the human body to keep in from being to acidic. That study was done by Dr Lioness Paulings medical reseacher and nobel prize winner. Before you condemn something you should try it. I did and it changed my life for the better. At 44 I look and feel like I am much younger but that was my life style change. I chose Natural Health to Triditional Health and am happier for it. Oh yeah I don't have the high cost of medical bills the pharma companies would like, my alternative treatment costs no more then $18.00 a month.
Hello,
I was recently introduced to Isagenix. I have a pretty vast experience with using vitamins and alternative health products. My family enjoys the products very much. My husband doesn't need to loose weight, but gain weight. He can get his calories without eating a lot of bulk that was taking its toll on his colon. I think it is important that it is organic. My kids love it too. I have just started taking the shake and the cleanse at night and the ionix (i love the taste) and puffiness is starting to leave my body. My fingers are getting thinner. Products similar to these are available in the health food stores, a lot of body builders use similar products. My dentist uses a similar regime, that is protein shake, meal replacement, etc, it cost him twice as much and there is no even a way to make money with it if you wanted to. There is not a one size fits all but my family and kids included are really enjoying the product and feel the health benefits. One example, after just taking it for 3 days, I went out driving today, my eyes were so clear. As I have gotten older the vision is being affected. It was really amazing. I was a raw fooder for a time. That can be a great regimen. But it is a lifestyle that is not sustainable for us. This is helping us strike a balance. If it was not good for you, I understand. But my family and it looks like many others are having very positive experiences.
Dear "Doctor" Hall,
I've worked at a doctor's office that promotes the Isagenix system for almost 2 years now. I have seen numerous people not only lose weight, but LOOK better. Their skin is brighter, their hair is healthier, and they are happier. A couple of people were even able to quit their blood pressure medications. This is not to say that this product will work for everyone, nor will it cure any diseases - but to discredit a product only because it is sold by Multi-Level Marketers is, what was the word you used? Oh, "unsupported".
And what is Multi-Level-Marketing? A pyramid of sellers who make money for themselves while also making money for the corporation in charge. What other industry employs this type of structure? Almost every other business in existence, including the PHARMACEUTICAL DRUG COMPANIES. Think about it.
Cheers,
Jo
PS.
"No serious medical scientist would take it seriously enough to bother about it."
And yet you bothered...
About a month and a half ago, I purchased the 30 day Isagenix cleanse. Without my knowledge or approval, the person whom I ordered this stuff from set up an account for me online and set me up for autoship. Needless to say, a couple of weeks ago a new shipment arrived at my door and $200.00 was charged to my credit card. I have a friend who had this exact same experience ordering from someone else and, from what I have read on this website, there are others out there who have had the same experience as well. In my books, this is incredibly dishonest and deceitful. If you, as a rep for this product, do this to someone then you are a SCAMMER.
I tried this product for one day and am very disappointed. It gave me a very severe headache and heart palpitations. This happened to quick to be a "detox reaction". This was a very negative reaction to the product itself. Just because the product claims to be all natural doesn't mean it's good for you. There are many herbs, vitamins and minerals that are toxic in large doses.
There is no better way to a healthier lifestyle than a proper, well balanced diet and a regular excercise routine.
Different things work for different people. Isagenix products work for me. The cleanse, shake, and gatorade-type drink have made it too easy from me to go from 40 waist to 32's and 280# to 215#. You can keep the rest of the stuff, except for the Ionic Supreme. Some weird, molasses based product that honest-to-god seems to help your body recover from training or hard work outs. helped me, anyway. helps my kid, the pitcher, too. arm doesn't get sore after pitching or bullpens.
Isagenix definitely works!!!! Myself and about 20 other family members are all doing it and have lost hundreds of pounds combined!! Isagenix promotes weight loss and well being in a very healthy way. I have way more energy and have lost a lot of weight and inches.
Dr. Hall did a service and left an appropriate response. Prove the science, what she got was people proving the circumstances. Anyone who who resorted to insults and attacks to protect their "business" or the integrity of their use are not promoting anything except mob rule conduct. If Isagenix works it will continue to grow in it's acceptance by the general public and the medical questions will be further laid out in congruent understandable narrative. Most of the science sounding "alternative medicine" speak in the promotional do appear deceptive to most people trying to distinguish if the stuff really works and is for them to try and use.
The head of Isagenix is the same guy that was involved in the Cambridge Diet back in the late 70s and early 80s. Check out this New York Times article on what became of that company: http://www.nytimes.com/1983/11/16/garden/personal-health-044873.html?&pagewanted=1
Sound familiar?
Hi everyone!
I am an independent Isagenix associate, meaning that I share Isagenix with people I care about and I earn rebates that pay for my products. I cannot wait until further clinical trials are published. I feel it is unfair to say Isagenix is making unsubstantiated claims, and that it doesn't actually help you at all....... isn't that an unsubstantiated claim too?
Isagenix may or may not be for you, but I truly believe that people need to look at the information provided and make a decision for themselves. It may be to try it risk free for a month or to pass, either way is the right choice for you, since you are the one who knows your body the best.
Take care everyone!
Here's an unsubstantiated, but obviously self-evident claim:
Isagenix is a freakish cult perpetrated on the uncritical, by the unscrupulous, using the desperate search for the ever-elusive "easy solution."
Ouch! I think you need an isadelight! I hope your day gets brighter.
Signing off, it is too bad when people have to resort to insults to try and make their opinions appear valid. I will not be checking back in, so you don't need to spread more negative energy by responding.
Take care
Isagenix has paid for independent studies , isagenix stands behind products with a 30 day money back guarantee ( weight watchers doesn't do that or any of the others) Medical Doctors DO recommend Isagenix ( not all but some do) Name me one health supplement that is FDA approved, you Can't because they don't do it. So can you say ALL health Supplements don't work as claimed ?
Your going to tell me this product and company are lies? Well, the 55lbs. I lost, the 57" off of my entire body and the ability to run 2 marathons at 50 years of age after just 1 year on this product are no lie! I feel better than ever, am sleeping better than ever and am doing things at 52 I couldn't do at 32. I don't know who this Dr. is, but actions speak louder than words, and I have seen my friends, family and numerous others lives changed because of this product! If you look hard enough, you can find negative in anything.
I've been using Isagenix for over a year now, and yes, at the beginning, I lost 17 lbs. I was feeling great until I starting having some health problems. I have been very healthy, but just wanted to shed the 20 pounds that I've been carrying around. I was concerned that the products were causing my health to deteriorate and actually had to undergo surgery to remove a cervical polyp. I'm not sure if it was just a timing thing or not, but as I'm recovering from the surgery at home now, each time I try to introduce Isagenix back into my routine, I'm faced with bleeding issues. Why isn't Isagenix being regulated by the FDA?
I'm sure Isagenix is "working" for many people, just as bloodletting "worked" for many people throughout the centuries. If you accept all the success stories for Isagenix, logically you ought to accept the many more success stories for bloodletting.
To Lewis - not the same guys (http://www.nytimes.com/1983/11/16/garden/personal-health-044873.html?&pagewanted=1)
I like the way you express thing through words.Blogging is the best way to express feelings..Thanks for sharing.
I have had the privilege of working for Dr. Becky in the past and I consider myself an expert of sorts on who she is as a human and a doctor and who has been so carelessly slandered by this self proclaimed “skeptic” whose life purpose seems to mainly be skeptical. My job was to insure that each patient understood Dr. Becky’s recommendations, insure they had access to the remedies she suggested, follow up with patient’s progress and report the patient’s results to Dr. Becky. I have so many true heart warming memories from patients who shared their short and long term life changing results from detoxification. I remember sharing tears of joy with patients who had lost hope and had been searching for relief for decades and had finally found relief not only in Dr Becky’s compassionate bed side manner but in her suggested treatments. I never heard a patient complain about Dr. Becky personally or her recommendations and I talked and monitored hundreds of them.
Who is this mean spirited professional skeptic Dr. Hall? She helps define herself and her causes very well on her own website. Her disclaimer page even promotes skepticism about her hard earned credentials. In part it states “I don’t think credentials mean much.” With that disclaimer in mind I still cannot drum up my temptation to disregard Dr. Hall’s credentials and call her skeptical causes ”scams, all misinformation, unsupported claims, testimonials, and money-making ploys,” as she did against Dr. Becky and Isagenix. Dr. Hall is just doing what skeptical people naturally do but in her extreme skepticism it is without regard to the person, cause or organization she may unfairly judge. Her affiliations, articles, opinions etc are a reflection of her negative mindset which includes: writing articles for Skeptical Inquirer, a regular column in The SkepDoc; the list goes on and on but all center on skepticism. She’s too slanderous. I won’t throw out the baby with the bath water and determine anything Dr. Hall has accomplished or stands for deserves slander but I will express my own respectful skepticism about her ability to be opened minded enough to make a positive impact on future health for humanity . After a few hours of reading so much negativism and skepticism on alternative and conventional medicine I realized that I prefer to follow hope in the medical professions attempt to discover new medicine, natural and conventional.
The most troubling and the biggest LIE is Dr Hall infers that Dr. Becky is mainly motivated by financial interests. Low blow Dr. Hall! Uncalled for! Foul! Timeout! Dr Becky did not and still does not need a hurting individual’s money. She was already set for life long before Isagenix. She has walked away from a booming, thriving private practice that catered more to health damage control towards a passion that leans more to natural and preventative medicine. Dr Becky also left millions of dollars on the table of Isagenix because she has successfully finished playing her roll in sharing their great products and is ready to share new important life changing discoveries. Although she has moved along professionally her family still uses Isagenix products to detoxify.
Dr. Becky is the type of person, who in spite of Dr.Hall’s mean spirited criticism and slander, would be open to fair dialogue with her and would give her a genuine warm hug if they ever met in person. Most importantly she would respect her credentials and never publicly slander her personal motives for following her passions and valid experiences with real patients.
Within weeks, Dr Becky will be announcing her newest discovery of a company and their natural health products that will benefit the masses. She has not personally authorized me to make that announcement on this forum, but I promise to personally inform anyone with an interest as soon as she gives me the go ahead .Drop me a line at usmxsolutions@gmail.com and I will be sure to inform you of some new exciting natural discoveries that will benefit you and your loved ones. Skeptics invited.
Dear Dr. Hall,
I find it typical that someone with a fancy title should rant over how bad something is when it seems unlikely you have even tried it yourself. I have, and I know it works. How, do you ask?
1) The very morning I started taking Isagenix the weather forecast for the day on TV said overcast, in my morning paper it said rain. Yet all day was sunny! Clearly the experts don't know what they are talking about.
2) After using Isagenix for only a week, my springer spaniel puppy finally stopped wetting the floors. One week!
3) Copernicus was controversial in his time and, come on, you can't deny Isagenix is pretty controversial. Therefore, history will prove it right.
4) If you were really interested in spreading the truth about Isagenix, you'd teach the controversy.
5) After using Isagenix, I no longer spend as much time or effort on the toilet as I used to. This is a major setback for the toilet paper industry. You, "Dr" Hall, are nothing but a Big TP shill.
All of you Isacult freakoids are brian-washed. talking to you is like trying to argue with an alcoholic. Keep buying their Faery Dust. It just bugs me when one of us gets snatched by you all and turned into a zombie.
They's one born every minute .... it is soooo easy to part people from their hard-earned cash ... just tell them that your (very expensive)random concoction will 'cleanse' them and 'detox' their over-burdened bodies ... stand back and watch the cash roll in (PS be prepared to vilify anyone dares to point out that there is no evidence that your product actually works and cannot work)
Pshah!
There's nothing really new here.
In fact, those buzzwords are, like, so last year!
Whatever; that just shows how retarded these people are.
Dr. Harriet Hall has just done an amazing job of explaining the various ways that most of 176 [at the time] comments on this article she wrote are wrong. Included in his criticism are those who agreed with Dr. Hall, but for the wrong reasons.
If you're reading this comment, you should be reading Defending Isagenix: A Case Study in Flawed Thinking http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=5711
My Fiance and my Self were for at least 3 - 4 years addicted to poly drug using and i was overweight, depressed, exhausted and sick most of my life . My fiance had been to rehab (which did nothing except make him want to use more) he then went to a physcologist for 6 months to prescribe him xanax to get him off all his drugs but then got addicted to the xanax and took a down hill spiral . My mother had been using Isagenix for years and had kept telling us about it how ever we ignored her and thought it was a money making scam like the rest of them . One day she bought us a 30 day pack and within the first 2 weeks by fiance was off xanax, didn't feel the need to use , i had lost 4 kg and 60 cm all over my body . after the full 30 day program My finace was not drug dependant, had put on 7 kg of lean muscle , had so much engery, could think clearly , and was extremely excited and overwhelmed that with one product it completely change him life . I lost 10 kg , was energetic, slept deeper , think clearer , clean of all drug use and felt alive .
For those of you who listen to doctors such a Dr Harreit Hall just remeber we all are people she is a much human as we are because she has read books dose not make her a medical expert on something she has no idea about . I will never return to a doctor they put more drugs , toxins, poisons in your body then any product , person or network martketing company . As for the network marketing Isagenix is made for real people so we can share our secret to the world at an affordable price and also make some money .Instead of the Doctors, drug companies, governments,CEO'S ETC....
The goverenment and doctors make money off people being sick YOUR IN THE INDUSTRY TO KEEP PEOPLE SICK NOT MKAE THEM BETTER OTHERWISE YOU WOULD BE OUT OF A JOB AND SO WOULD THE DRUG COMPANIES .
Here's an idea Dr Hall TRY IT - THEN KNOCK IT - You wont find a negative point to this product because it is changing peoples health , bodies, and lives .
Regards,
ALIVE
Is Isagenix really a scam? I dont know about this. anyways your article is so good. Actually i have learned more after read your article, looking forward to next post. Thanks a lot!
Why do people put so much faith in the FDA? Do you even know who they are? Talk about blind faith. Do some independent research and get educated. Just because the FDA approves something or doesn't doesn't always mean it is safe or is not. Prescriptions are big business people and there are a lot of people out there that don't want you quitting yours.
Goodness, there are still people who believe in doctors and their opinions. Amazing!
Long time no visit. I recommend that anyone reading this far down visit http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=5711 for reaction by Dr. Hall to the comments contained within.
Although I'm not a fan of censorship, I have removed comments that are simply advertising products that have nothing to do with the topic.
I continue to support real science over pseudoscience and the spurious claims of alternative medicine, running a business, caring for family and keeping fit & healthy will keep my activities low.
I have read all the comments from the start. I am shocked not one mentions Overeaters Anonymous! It may be cult like, too, but it does not cost a dime (though there is a "pass the hat", no one must pay). I bought a 30 day Isagenix program in desperation for my 12 year old son, and I should have known better!
Especially since my religious beliefs require strict certification of foods and to go onto Isagenix, I needed to drop a level in my observance. But, I now realize, those products that are certified as Kosher (though being all dairy, it is a problem!) do not make up a full "system" as those who claim the products work would need to do, so I am taking that to mean that my "Higher Power" (which for those unfamiliar with 12 step-programs is a way to connect to something beyond one's self to seek help- a method which has helped the truly desperate alcoholics of the world) is telling me to request a refund ASAP.
I began Overeaters Anonymous in 1984. At most, I paid $90 in 90 days for the Fellowship and received honest support and lifelong results with my food addictions. When money was tight, I often donated a few cents, or nothing. Other than money, 12-step programs do require time to attend meetings, talk to a sponsor, sponsor others and viola!, you are a better person!
So, for those of you looking for lasting assistance in weight/food/health look into 12-step programs - perhaps you will find what you are looking for.
And, than you for keeping this topic open.
I Just don't believe that it is safe to be losing the kind of weight that these people claim they are losing in a week. Some that stay around me claim they are losing 11 pounds in one week. Being a Health Promotions Student soon to graduate I have learned to take of the body the right way. Diet and Exercise has helped me lose 15 pounds. Never thought I would have never thought I would be able to jog on a threadmill, but now I have worked myself up to 4.5 miles. We as American people need to just quit taking the wasy way out when it comes to weight loss.
He says...She says...Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Whatever a person can believe to help their body did what it is made to do-great. Best wishes to all of you on your weight loss goals.
I was given the Isagenix product brochure from a friend and thought the product looked fantastic. Before I start I would like to see some of the evidence that it has been scientifically proven to do what it says it does, especially when it comes to the cleansing side of things.
The whole program seems very expensive and I would love to know that it is worth it and that it wouldn't just be as good to buy a meal replacement shake from the local health shop?
If someone could please direct me to this information I would be very grateful, as there seems to be so many people that love this product.
To "Anonymous"
lots of folks claim lots of things. Throw your $$ away if you like. Give the scammers even more incentive to scam away. Have fun with the magic fairy dust cool aid.
"Cleansing" - what a worn-out marketing fraud. So last year....
There's one thing no one else has mentioned yet and that is sensing someone's energy field who has been using the product. I work in a medical office so I see people with a lot of different issues. One inparticular client has just started using the Isagenix products (among other things for pain) and when she came into the office for her last appointment the difference in her energy field was quite drastic. I asked her if she had been doing something new and she told me about her new regime which included Isogenics. Most people are unaware of this particular way to determine whether something is having a positive or negative effect on them. And you can also use kinesiology (muscle testing) to determine whether it is something that will work for you-your body knows best!
Yeah, most people are unaware of energy fields cuz their friggin goofy! Oh Brother.
I can't thank you enough for this high-quality post, and the work you do in general on your blog. Those who benefit from quackery are a concentrated, motivated, and even desperate set of "special interest groups," whereas info like your blog benefits anyone who takes the time to read it...
In particular I am concerned with Isagenix, as I have seen many friends and family members get sucked in without asking enough of the right questions about Isagenix, or for that matter, the supplements industry, or Multi Level Marketing.
Your article helps. Thank you.
just reading along because i am considering the product. Just had to comment on the comment left way at the top. About trusting science! laughable! All science has ever done is try to convince us that we are idiots who need science to think for us! The Big Bang "theory", evolution and my personal favorite..Al Gore and his Global Warming!
No thank you, great thinking scientists. God gave me a brain...I think I'll use it!
My opinion, try the products before you give an unfounded opinion! I've had tremendous pain relief, my skin looks amazing and for someone who is 45 I feel like I'm 25 again. I know what toxic crap literally came out of my body and after two years on the products the color of my feces has changed and my abdominal problems do not exist anymore. I have a degree in Nutrition and went to medical school. Most doctors are completely ignorant of nutrition and the benefit from herbs and formulations that DO WORK to heal the body. Everyone I've had use the products have great results and seeing their blood work and the way they feel and look is enough evidence for me. Too bad your article may discourage someone from using an incredible product line!
These products are amazing, particularly if you go the whole hog - totally organic to go with it, and wonderful regular exercise (in my case, dancing). I take Isagenix once or twice a day and the rest of the time completely healthy organic fresh food. Imagine, no more toxic, denatured, chemically produced and processed food contaminated with GMO, which gives you cancer!
Wow more pro's them con's on this topic. I find is odd that people resist good nutrition. as if they know better or should I say invested diffrently.
pound sand FDA and western meds you suck and have always left me worse then the symtom I sought treatment for.
Nutrition is the key to fighting adiction. again if you are a nay sayer you are adicted to the BS you have been feed and you deserve to what ever fate you get. Good luck and get out of the way of well being. Who cares if the FDA has not approved a product. did they not approve smoking at one time? there you have it?
I just read this whole blog. I tried Isagenix in 2004 and lost 18 inches and 5 lbs in one week. It stayed off. I am starting it again this week with some girlfriends to get in shape for summer. It is hard to do!! It is painful to starve. The cleanse tastes bad, but the shakes are delicious. All I can say is it worked for me once. Here's hoping it works again! I let you know in 9 days!
I think you should better consult with an specialist before using this product Isagenix.And if it's alright to use this then you should follow the proper instructions.the problem is if this product is so good as they sounds then why we don't hear about it earlier..better be carefull before using Isagenix..
